Form I-9 and 3/31/16, what will you do?
The most common I-9 question I'm receiving this week, "Dave, do you have any information on a revised version of the Form I-9? What will happen on 3/31/16 when it expires?
Answer:
USCIS published a notice in the Federal Register on November 24, 2015 to inform the public of proposed changes to the Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification. The comment period closed Jan. 25, 2016. USCIS is in the process of considering public comments and requested changes to the proposed form. Once we have completed our review, the form will be published in the Federal Register for a 30-day public comment period. At the same time, the revised form will be submitted to the Office of Management and Budget for review and approval. Employers should continue to use the current form until OMB approves use of the revised form.
