The forgotten art of the "Thank you,"? letter.

The forgotten art of the "Thank you," letter.

Firstly, I appreciate the irony of this post being published on #LinkedIN but social media is a perfect conduit to reach an audience. A thank you letter is personal, and we have forgotten the impact that personal correspondence can have in today's digital world.

Frank Recruitment Group recently co-hosted an evening at the Melbourne Cricket Ground with Chris Holtby, UK Consul General, in the company of the ICC Cricket World Cup prior to its departure to England for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup series. I invited Nick Hockley along to the event to talk about Melbourne hosting the Men's and Women's ICC T20 2020 World Cup finals at the MCG (The Women's final will be held on March 8 2020, which is also International Women’s Day; Melbourne, the ICC and the MCG are hoping to set a new attendance world record for a women’s sporting event at the game so make sure you register your interest and get your tickets once they're released!)

Today I received a thank you letter from Nick to say how much he enjoyed the event, he thanked me for the warm welcome and hospitality he received (Letter below). The letter was totally unexpected but warmly received.

Nick's letter reminded me of the importance in taking time out of our busy days' to show appreciation for the people around us who help to make our journey enjoyable. I have added "Write more thank you letters," to my list of 2019 resolutions because receiving an old-fashioned thank you letter is enough to brighten anyone's day.

Thank you Nick, I look forward to our next event!

Well, my LinkedIN post is definitely prompting "Thought and change," perhaps even a movement back to the traditional!? Thank you very much Susan Sly GAICD?for the thoughtful card;? I also enjoyed our great lunch conversation!

Now here's a LinkedIn post I can get behind! A sad lost art that I still maintain because it was instilled into me from childhood. Oh, and I found it made a huge difference throughout my career. It takes seconds or minutes and the "ROI" is immense.

Now I just feel bad! I'll personally thank you with a beer, will that do?
