Forget resolutions. Forget goals. You want systems.

Forget resolutions. Forget goals. You want systems.

Amid the usual flurry of New Year goal-setting, we’re throwing out the resolutions and focusing on building systems. Now that we’re older and wiser (hello, 2025), we know that although a few new habits may stick, most won’t make it till February.

Change is hard. But chaos, especially in a business, is both exhausting and expensive. So how do we make lasting positive changes? Relying on grit and determination to power through unpleasant tasks will only last so long; expecting that level of commitment from employees is even less likely to work.?

Let’s be real, most of us default to the path of least resistance. That’s where systems come in. Systems are powerful, enabling you to set up your day-to-day in a way that makes getting stuff done as frictionless as possible.

As an example, someone trying to eat better might stash that cookie jar far out of sight, while keeping healthy food options easily within arm’s reach. In business, the same principle can apply. We are more likely to use tools that are intuitive and tackle tasks that are straightforward. So instead of setting a load of goals that will likely fizzle out, experts advise using your “new year, new you” energy to set up systems that'll carry you through the rest of the year.

Some areas to focus on include setting up reliable communication and collaboration tools, exploring where AI can automate tasks, and finding the right system to organise and manage your data. Over the past few years, Pastel has prioritised setting up its own systems to offer better support to our customers and ensure our teams work smarter, not harder, and we’ve seen returns already!

The best part of having established systems is the mental bandwidth it frees up. For management, fewer fires to put out means more room for strategic thinking. And your team can focus on what actually drives the business forward instead of wasting time digging for documents or troubleshooting tech issues.

So, forget the fleeting New Year’s resolutions and invest in the infrastructure that will support your business for years to come. For personalised advice on how to set up a user-friendly communication system that encourages good habits, have a chat with our team.
