It seems like today, the number on the scale often takes center stage when it comes to defining health and wellness. You go the doctor for a cold, sprained ankle, or routine check up, it doesn't matter the reason for appointment, and bam you are automatically told by your doctor to lose 5% of your body weight. Every influencer on social media is selling the next best trend to help you shrink, tone or sculpt so you can fit the thin ideal. We are constantly inundated with messaging that smaller = better.
However, this narrow focus on weight-centric goals overlooks the complexities of overall well-being and can lead to a distorted perception of health. It's time to shift the narrative and embrace a more holistic approach to health that extends beyond the numbers on the scale.
While weight certainly plays a role in health, it is just one piece of the puzzle. True well-being encompasses physical, mental, emotional, and social aspects of health, all of which are interconnected and equally important. Instead of fixating on a specific number or dress size, we should prioritize behaviors and habits that support overall health and vitality.
