Forensic Fridays, Ed. 31, 6 Oct. 2023

In the spirit of DNAforAFRICA , this week, we celebrate some remarkable achievements within our forensic community!

Malaika Oringo Human Trafficking Expert dedicated to combating human trafficking, was honoured with the 'Voice Achievers Award'; Tumisang Thabo Mbedzi for using innovative methods to identify human remains, was recognized with the '30 under 30' award and Victor Omondi was awarded a scholarship to attend the IAFS meeting in Sydney, Australia next month. Their dedication showcases the incredible possibilities achieved with passion, skill and sheer determination, so let's support and amplify their achievements! (*and a special request from Victor, (pictured below, who still needs some help to get across to Australia in November)!

Talking of champions, we unveil the 2023 #MVFJ finalists, also outstanding changemakers in our community - so please make sure cast your Vote for your #MVFJ favourite!

We also share an imoportant publication, sadly, yet aptly entitled "The Nobodies" which sheds light on the lack of resources in many African regions, resulting in millions of unidentified decedents every year. While it is a sobering read, it concludes with practical solutions to address this challenge, and appeals to the global forensic community to prioritise identifying individuals in marginalised communities.
