Forecast: It's going to get Lifey
My son had a hard day today.
He has had a bunch of hard days, actually.
He has Sensory Processing Challenges.
Sensory processing disorder (SPD; also known as sensory integration dysfunction) is a condition that exists when multisensory integration is not adequately processed in order to provide appropriate responses to the demands of the environment.
I was hugging him this evening, and trying to encourage him about school. I always give him two main goals. "Tomorrow, you can try again. If you work hard, and if you are kind, you will work it out. We can keep getting better at the work. Some days are hard, but we ARE capable, if we keep trying."
I was thinking about how much that applies to me, too. I feel like this mixed bag of blessings and dragons. Of strengths and deficits. Of faith and fire. Of pure confidence in my calling, and sometimes debilitating insecurities that I can pull it off, and steward this beautiful burden the way God intended me to.
And I know, I am not alone. So I want to encourage you today. Keep learning. Keep leaning in. Keep dusting your butt off when you fall- and if you are trying bravely at all, you will sometimes fall. Let the story of who you really are, what you believe, and your why behind it all- shine through.
Life will get lifey. When it's overwhelming, remember these two simple things: Work hard. Be kind.
