Ford to Go All-In On Hybrids, Postpones EV Plans

Ford Motor Company announced a repositioning of the launch schedule for its upcoming electric vehicles at its Oakville, Ontario assembly plant, alongside an expansion of hybrid offerings and an optimization of Internal Combustion Engines (ICE).?

Ford is accelerating its hybrid electric vehicle offerings across its entire Ford Blue lineup in North America by the end of the decade. In the first quarter of 2024, the company observed a 42% surge in hybrid sales.?

“We are committed to scaling a profitable EV business, using capital wisely and bringing to market the right gas, hybrid, and fully electric vehicles at the right time,” said Jim Farley, President and CEO, Ford.?

The transformation of the Oakville Assembly Plant into an electric vehicle manufacturing hub is set to commence in the second quarter of the year. However, the launch of Ford’s all-new three-row electric vehicles at this complex will be rescheduled to 2027 from the initially slated 2025. “While this change requires a revision to the timeline, it will support a viable and growing future for our company, employees, and dealers,” said Bev Goodman, President and CEO, Ford Canada.

Progress at the BlueOval City campus in Tennessee remains on track. Installation of stamping equipment for the production of Ford’s next-generation electric truck is underway. The Tennessee Electric Vehicle Center, slated to begin customer deliveries in 2026, embodies Ford’s vision for Industry 4.0 manufacturing, prioritizing quality and efficiency.

Expansion efforts at the Ohio Assembly Plant in Avon Lake are well underway, aiming to produce a new electric commercial vehicle for Ford Pro customers by the mid-decade.?
