The anecdote I'm sharing here got me to be a bit teary-eyed the other day. And honestly, it's one of the most memorable moments of our career in creativity as a team that created and executed Project Akshar (Alphabets).
More than any win or any award, this MATTERS. A special thank you to my friend Sameer Ketkar for helping bring this particular and beautiful act to life.
There’s an orphanage in Mumbai, India called Shishu Bhavan (i.e. Students Home) that houses underprivileged children as well as children with special needs; all the children are cast away by their families. Through the SOL Waldorf School's initiatives in that orphanage, pre-primary and primary level children are provided with free education in the orphanage itself.
The walls of the orphanage needed an uplift and the existing educational posters were in pretty bad shape giving children little to no reason to learn.
The team from the school who are running various educational efforts (this being one of them that they do out of the orphanage), saw the work we had done on Project Akshar (Alphabets) and knew it could help them. So, we shared the work with them and through fundraising, they have now put up the work from our project on the walls of the orphanage. The alphabets now form the walls of the orphanage.
The entire effort has captured the interest of influential groups of women who want to come and teach the kids at the orphanage. I can’t wait to see the stories coming out from the orphanage, towards teachers imparting education and towards the children benefitting.
This really made all our work worth it - and it’s a moment I won’t forget!
Here's to more ideas that outlast their intent and leave strong footprints in the sands of time.
