Things are Changing at Total Foot Health

We would like to open our first newsletter of 2022 by wishing you all a very Happy New Year.

At the beginning of each new year many of us make a number of resolutions we aim to keep and, hopefully, we succeed in doing this for longer than the typical 14 days before we weaken. As a business, we have also made a resolution which is to address the issue of some patients having to walk up to the second floor for some treatments, especially for your rehabilitation appointments. Acting swiftly, we are already putting our plans in motion.

Resolution: To create a new treatment room on the first floor.

How will this be achieved?

Over the coming weeks we will be restructuring the first floor, replacing the current partitions with soundproof walling, relocating the kitchen and stock room and adding essential air conditioning.

Some of this work has already started with the relocation of the stockroom and the installation of the air conditioning unit and ‘building’ plans finalised. The removal and rebuilding of walls, especially those directly impacting on the current first floor treatment room, will be done at times when that space is not used in order to minimise impact.

At all times, we will endeavour to keep noise to a minimum and thank you in advance for your support whilst this work is completed.

Exercise / Walking and Foot Pain

There is nothing better for the mind and body to wrap up and get out in the fresh air for a walk. Before you do this spare a thought for your feet before you hastily pull on your wellies. Did you know that although wellies keep your feet dry, they are not designed for longer distance walks?

Our feet need to bend at the ankle for effective movement and the Wellington limits this which is why people scuff along in wellies. We see a lot of injuries caused by people walking in their wellies, especially heel and ankle pain. It is worth switching to waterproof walking boots. Not only will they keep your feet healthy but they will also help to protect the foot and ankle, they are comfortable, well insulated and you can walk for miles in them. Your feet will be happier too!

Points to remember when buying a pair of walking boots

  • Wear a walking sock to try the boots on.
  • Make sure there is a 1cm (1/2inch) between the end of the toes and the end of the boots and enough depth to wiggle the toes.
  • Walk around the shop and down the slope – boots should not slip and should be comfortable straight away.
  • Buy them from somewhere where there is a selection of styles.

Feedback Wanted

We Want your Feedback

Prior to Covid we were able to use patient questionnaires to gain your feedback on how we are doing and the service we provide. Obviously, this is no longer possible in the same way as we continue to minimise points of contact as part of our Covid-19 protocols. However, we now have facility to gain your feedback electronically.

Throughout January our reception team will be sending out feedback requests to you following your appointment. You will only receive one regardless of the number of times you visit in January. All you will need to do to provide the feedback is to click on the appropriate link.

Your comments are important to us and we hope that you will be able to help us using this new medium.

We are pleased to announce that from January 2022 we will be returning to our pre-Lockdown hours and thus offering later appointments on a Tuesday evening. This change will mean that for those with normal daytime commitments we will now be able to offer appointments between 5pm and 7pm on a Tuesday evening.

It is our hope that the later opening will help our patients access clinical care at a time that is most convenient, whether that is an 08:15 appointment before work or an evening appointment after work. What is more, these appointment slots are now available to book, either from the clinic or online.
