Footing Batch Design Using ASDIP FOUNDATION
ASDIP Structural Software
Software for structural design of building components such as beams, columns, retaining walls, footings, base plates.
ASDIP FOUNDATION?is a structural engineering software for design of footings. It includes a new feature called the?Footing Batch Design Manager, which allows the design and optimization of a group of footings, such as those imported from ETABS. In addition, the software is able to generate the?Footing Schedule, and then it can export this schedule to Excel. This post is a brief overview of these new features, and how to use them to complete the design in less time and boost your productivity.

Importing Footing Reactions from ETABS
ASDIP FOUNDATION is able to import the footing reactions directly from the ETABS model of your building. Once the loads have been imported, the full set of footings will show in the Project Manager of ASDIP FOUNDATION, as shown below. From here, you can double click on any of the footings to open the calculations of that footing, change the size, materials, reinforcement, etc.
You can go and design your footings one by one, but this would be time-consuming. What about if you could design all your footings at once, just with the click of a button? Now this is possible with the?Batch Design Manager.
Footing Batch Design Manager
The Batch?Design Manager?is a tool that?performs a preliminary design of a group of footings based on the loading conditions and your preferred bar sizes. The Batch Design Manager will find the square dimensions of each footing in the batch to keep the bearing pressures under the allowable values. In addition, it will find the required thickness for shear, and it will calculate the required number of reinforcing bars along the spread footing to make sure that the bending capacity ratio is less than 1.0.
Once the preliminary design is completed, the user can get access to the calculations of any specific footing in the batch and easily fine-tune the design with minimal effort.
To open the Batch Design Manager, go to the Project Manager and click on the?Design?>?Batch Design Manager?menu option, as shown below. The Design Manager window will show up, where the user can enter the allowable bearing pressure and the preferred bar size. Click on the Design button to start the design of the full batch of footings.

Generating a Footing Schedule
Now that the design of the spread footings has been completed, you can show them in a construction drawing.
ASDIP FOUNDATION can generate a Footing Schedule, which is a pre-formatted table that shows the most relevant information about every footing in your project. ASDIP can generate the schedule for you, instead of inputting all of the information manually, potentially saving you hours of your time.
Exporting Footing Schedule to Excel
ASDIP allows you to export the footing schedule to an Excel file. The schedule can be copied and pasted from your spreadsheet directly to your construction drawing.
Takeaway
ASDIP FOUNDATION now includes a new feature called the Batch Design Manager, which will produce a preliminary design of all the spread footings in a building. In addition, it can generate a Footing Schedule and Export to Excel.
