Footfall across European Highstreets in October 2020
Measures taken by governments in Europe differ from one country to another and sometimes even from one region to another.
TC group Solutions specialised in people counting technology shares with you an overview of footfall in European cities
UK London
Footfall decreased by 39.8% in high streets in October 2020 compared to October 2019.
France paris
Lockdown is quite similar to the one in place in UK, we observe, in particular in the Marai, a decrease in pedestrian traffic of 55% in October 2020 compared to October 2019.
Spain
Each Province is free to take the measures which it deems necessary; thus:
Catalonia (Barcelona and surroundings)
Unlike France, only shops with a surface area of less than 800 square meters are open (excluding hypermarkets) while respecting the limit of 30% attendance compared to the maximum capacity of the point of sale .
In the city of Barcelona, there is a decrease in footfall of 60% in October 2020 in comparison with October 2019.
Madrid
The region is subject to a curfew from midnight to 6 a.m., attendance is limited to 50% in shops and restaurants, and gatherings are limited to six people.
In the Spanish capital, there is a drop in pedestrian traffic of 45% in October 2020 vs October 2019.
Italy- Milan
Lombardy is the city where pedestrian traffic experienced the lowest drop in pedestrian traffic, 31% in October 2020 compared to October 2019.
We can see that the French capital is the city that experiences the greatest drop in pedestrian traffic in shopping streets.
Lockdown is an "evil" necessary to defeat the Covid, however the salvation of Brick and Mortar in Europe will require rigorous controls of health measures allowing the reopening of "small" stores.
