Founded in 1904, Bayer 04 Leverkusen is on the verge of becoming Bundesliga champions for the first time.
Owned by the giant Bayer corporation, it follows the German model of major companies owning teams, like Wolfsburg with VW and more recently. Red Bull Leipzig.
Bayer Leverkusen's revenues reached € 273 million, with wages costs of € 141 million. Bayern Munich's wages reached € 416 million, three times more.
Based in Miami, the team's revenue surged from US$ 54 million in 2022 to US$ 127 million in 2023, a 253% increase, aiming for US$ 200 million in 2024.
This represents the highest growth of any team in the league's history in just one year. The club had already shown significant growth in 2021.
It is already valued at over US$ 1 billion and is expected to rise even further.
This traditional Mexican club went public on the stock exchange. Shares started at 11.5 pesos and reached 30.0 pesos within hours, an increase of about 160%. They are currently at 27 pesos. The ticker is áGUILAS CPO.
The company owns the team, Azteca Stadium, a casino operation, and editorial operation from Grupo Televisa.
The team's revenues amount in the new company reached US$ 104 million and the casino operation US$ 124 million.
The plan is to raise funds for the renovation of Azteca Stadium ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
