"The Fools Who Dream"

If you haven't seen "La La Land" or more importantly the Audition by Emma Stone, you should. Or at least listen to the song, "The Fools Who Dream". I actually haven't seen the movie yet, but introduced to the song by a fellow dreamer, my daughter, Emma. And I love that she loves that song, in particular.
I have tried to make a career of dreaming big. Driven by a father and mother who taught me to know no limits and take the bricks they throw at you to build a foundation for your family. I have ventured to do that and taken the slings and arrows time and time again to prove it. But just like the woman in the song, I think i'd do it again.
But now, more than ever, it seems vital. Don't get me wrong, I have, since starting this adventure, become more steady and sure. More reliant on proof, on data, on the right path. My most recent work was within an investment company driven by risk and the desire to address it. I have been in a few places where the company had an incredible market lead. Either on new frontiers or in built up industries. And none of them failed. None of them faltered. They all grew. But did they make a dream real?
So, the time may come soon for me to think about what I want to do with my world. In no particular hurry, but it is gut check time. Do we tilt at another windmill, dare greatly, fight, or accept the benefits of fights already won? The benefits are significant. Retirement, for one, is easy. Other big opportunities are in front of me. So are universes, to be dented.
And for those who feel the Fools Who Dream are all soft and snowflake like, I chose the picture above on purpose. Dreams are filled with passionate and determined purpose. Chasing a dream isn't an easy pain free life. It is those eyes, in that picture, that make the song work. Purpose in the midst of frivolity. She isn't daydreaming, she is creating her world. Something I hope Emma and Madison will do daily.

7 年Love the movie. Love the song. "Here's to the rebels, the ripples from pebbles, the painters and poets and plays. And… here's to the fools who dream- crazy as they may seem. Here's to the hearts that break. Here's to the mess we make.” ~~ May your ripples be made from kindness and goodness~~
