Food Waste Disposal: Things to Remember

Food Waste Disposal: Things to Remember

If you’re like most people, you probably don’t give a lot of thought to what happens to your food once it goes down the?garbage disposal. Out of sight, out of mind, right? Well, there are a few things you should keep in mind when disposing of food waste so that you don’t end up with a clogged sink or worse. Here are some tips for proper food?waste disposal.

What not to put down the waste disposer:

Coffee grounds and eggshells?can cause your garbage disposal to clog more quickly as they tend to build up and form a sludge-like substance. Hence, consider composting them instead!

Grease and oil?can solidify in your pipes and cause major backups. Pour any grease or oil into an empty can or jar and throw it in the trash instead.

Fibrous foods?like celery, corn husks, and artichokes can get tangled up in the blades of your garbage disposal and cause serious damage. Compost these instead!

Bones,?no matter how small, should never go down the garbage disposal. They can damage the blades and cause clogs. Throw them in the trash instead.

Now that you know what not to put down your garbage disposal, you can avoid costly repairs and keep your sink flowing freely. With a little care, you can keep your garbage disposal running like new for years to come!
