No Food is Vegetarian, eh and Green Explosives
INTRODUCTION:
Some of the path-breaking discoveries and inventions initially were rejected, mocked, and ridiculed by masses and even by scientists (other than who discovered and invented such findings). But over the years, in many instances after the death of the discoverer, the same discoveries were found to be true and were accepted with applaud. I will cite a few examples:
1. Some intellectuals; while attempts were being made to make airplanes; with their part of (mis)understandings had commented that matter denser than air cannot fly.
But airplanes do and did fly.
2. Galileo Galilee had to wait for decades (may be closer to a century) before mankind got convinced with his findings.
3. Alfred Wegener’s theory on continental drift proposed in 1929 was rejected by most other scientists during his lifetime. It was only in the 1960s that continental drift finally became part of mainstream science.
4. The story of Ignaz Semmelweis is tragic on a number of levels.
Firstly, there are women who died who shouldn’t have.
In 1847 Semmelweis, an obstetrician published evidence that when doctors washed their hands before examining or treating patients, the mortality rate for women in his birthing ward in Vienna, Austria, was greatly reduced. But his pieces of advice were rejected.
5. Aristarchus who lived almost at the same time as Archimedes was the first person to propose that the earth and the other planets orbit the sun. He also said that the stars are much farther away than the planets.
It is not clear Archimedes agreed with Aristarchus’s heliocentric idea, but Archimedes has mentioned the idea of Aristarchus in one of his own works. Most people ignored Aristarchus and continued to believe that the earth is the center of the Universe.
6. Gregor Mendel was the first person to correctly identify the rules of heredity. The importance of Mendel’s work was only properly appreciated in 1900, 16 years after his death, and 34 years after he first published it.
7. 1,800 years after the time of Aristarchus, Nicholas Copernicus idea came in to notice. This too was ignored for a long time.
8. Amedeo Avogadro who proposed that equal volumes of different gases, at the same temperature and pressure, contain an equal number of molecules, was rejected by other scientists during his lifetime It was in 1870 that it was recognized to be a fact.
9. Johannes Kepler is the third scientist whose idea was ignored for years like those of Aristarchus and Copernicus.
FOODS FOR THOUGHT:
The thin difference between findings and accepting the fact always has kept mankind at a slower pace of development than the speed at which developments should have moved.
How does one differentiate between vegetarian and non-vegetarian foods?
The common belief is that something which is capable of giving further lives is non-vegetarian food. Leafy vegetables, seeds, and milk, in line with this logic, are than non-vegetarian foods. You agree or it appears to be a weird thought.
The 09 points mentioned in the earlier pages of this article are not in line with the discussion in the just previous paragraph (vegetarian and non-vegetarian) but it incites researchers to think about the pig-heads who outrightly discard new ideas.
It is painful to find (ill)logic of professionals who discourage lateral thinking.
Green explosives (GreenEx) are manufacturable and available.
But for Rutherford, there could not have been a Bohr. Let us remember this always.
