An AMAZING thing happened to me today.?A client of mine?... I'll call her Susie ...?cut her symptoms to less than HALF! Just from eating certain foods and avoiding others.

How did she do that??First, we did LEAP Mediator?Release Testing (MRT). And then I worked with her to develop a menu and program that worked for her based upon the results.?And gave her lots of resources (and continue to do) to make her successful.

She came to me about a month ago eating about 5 foods ... scared of the rest?... An?ex runner and hiker ...?she had absolutely NO energy?to walk even a block.?Today she rated her energy as a "9 out of 10" ... WooHOO!

I never know when I start on this journey with clients how well they're going to do or how fast they're going to respond. Most do well if they stick to the program. Not all want to for a host of reasons ...

I explain LEAP MRT in greater detail below. And find that it's a great first step on the journey to wellness ... and gut health ... for most of my clients.

So all the pieces easily fell into place this week.?Not only did one of my clients have a HUGE win??... I found this research on the gut and food sensitivities and just hadda do a newsletter around it here.??

As The Good Gut Queen, I talk a lot about leaky gut causing inflammation. Inflammation ... a word that's bandied about by most doctors ... but not one of them is talking treatment.,

This is the treatment ... based upon the idea that?inflammation is at the root cause of most health problems. And that food sensitivities kick up histamines ... which cause?inflammation.

Histamine?is like the bouncer I had in the tacky bar I worked at in my bartendering days (yes ... I did that too ... and still make a KILLER Margarita!). It?helps your body get rid of something that's bothering you ... in this case an allergic reaction (allergen) to a certain food that you're sensitive to.?

Histamines start the process that escorts allergens out of your body.?They can make you sneeze, tear up, or itch??... whatever it takes to get the job done. In other words ...?they're part of your body's defense system.

We mostly refer to allergies when we're talking about histamines ... and doctors prescribe ANTI-histamines to combat this. But?eating sensitive foods that also start this chain of events can make you miserable in so many ways ... from skin maladies to mental unwellness to maldigestion.?

But food sensitivities are different that food allergies. There's still an allergen-histamine-inflammation reaction ... but food allergies are like attacking tigers ... they jump right out and attack you if you even eat a little bit of an allergic food.

Food sensitivities are?instead?DELAYED reactions to foods?... for example ... you may have a headache three days after you eat a sensitive food.?That's why it's important to test. And impossible to find out the REAL disruptors if you don't.

So?MRT is the blood test?of now 176 familiar foods, food chemicals, and flavor enhancers (this test is in its third incarnation and getting better and better with each one). You get a kit, get the blood drawn, and send it off.

Five to ten days later you get the results. Then together?we create a plan (the LEAP part) based solely on those results?... an example of which is above.?We start out with the least reactive foods?(the ones that have a shorter green footprint)?to cool down inflammation ASAP.?

And continue to gradually add more non-reactive (green) foods over the course of a month or more until you have a plan that includes all the green foods you eat.?The goal is to reduce that histamine ... thereby reducing inflammation ... thereby allowing your body to heal.

And?the end result is that your symptoms decrease ... or even go away entirely.?That's what happened to Susie. And?check out?the FOODStrong page?for a lot for success stories.

My Gut-Take:?

The review article,?"Mechanisms by which gut microorganisms influence food sensitivities"?explores how changes in the gut cause food sensitivities.

I love that it declares "Adverse reactions to food, expressed as food sensitivity or food intolerance, are on the rise". No kidding!

But I DIDN'T know ... according to the article that?"It is estimated that one-fifth of the population world-wide experiences adverse reactions to dietary components". That's a lot ... and?with TWENTY PERCENT of us having "adverse reactions" it's kind of a pandemic ... and GROWING!

Also ... it points out that?"Food sensitivities with allergic pathophysiology involve immunoglobulin E (IgE) mechanisms, non-IgE-mediated mechanisms or a combination of both". In other words ... we're talking about that allergen-histamine-inflammation reaction I discussed above when I talked about MRT.

YAY ...?that's exactly what LEAP MRT tests for and treats.?And further proof that these?other so-called food sensitivity tests?... like a high-priced one (that will remain nameless) that tests IgG sensitivity and others that require a finger prick (also IgG) or even saliva?are BOGUS!

Let me back up here and explain what?Ig (immunoglobulins)?are.?They're also called antibodies ... and are molecules produced by white blood cells that are part of your body's immune system. They bind to foreign cells like bacteria and viruses to help your white blood cells destroy them.?Got it?

And?there are different kinds?... IgA, IgG, and IgM ... which to me are like that instantly-pouncing tiger and?IgE and Non-IgE mediated immune responses ... which is what MRT actually tests for. And is the PROPER Ig to use when testing for sensitvities.

I'll use myself as an example ... I've had allergic reactions my entire life! But ... when tested for allergies ... after all those pin pricks ... the result was NADA. Did MRT ... it lit up like a string of Christmas lights ... the BIG blazing multi-hued ones!

Personal proof that MRT tests the right Ig ... and that?it's a test that potentially we ALL should take.?The article concludes by saying "Deep knowledge of specific micro-organism–diet interactions and their underlying molecular pathways will be necessary to develop prevention and novel therapies to treat food sensitivities".

And?histamine intolerance can be caused by a lot of the things I talk about in the article ... like bacterial overgrowth, parasites, and leaky gut.?Sound familiar?

Being grateful can shift your whole worldview. Or ... at the very least ... shift your energy.?As?Psychology Today?says ...

"Gratitude?is perhaps the most important key to finding success and?happiness?in the modern day.?Knowing what we appreciate in life means knowing who we are, what matters to us and what makes each day worthwhile.?Paying?attention?to what we feel grateful for?puts us in a positive frame of mind.?It connects us to the world around us and to ourselves.?Research?demonstrates that focusing on what we are grateful for is a universally rewarding way to feel happier and more fulfilled".

I think that just about says it all.??That's why I do gratitudes every day in my journal. You can just open a blank page, write "I am so happy and grateful now that ... " ... and list what you're grateful for. It works wonders in your life!

That's why?I wrote this mindful eating script with gratitude woven throughout.?It helps you change your attitude about eating ... which a lot of us who have a funky relationship with food need to do to feel nurtured and nourished.

So just read the script below into your phone and go for it! Or ... instead ... use mine.

And don't forget these mindfulness tools ...?put “breathe” signs on your mirror, kitchen cabinet, or dashboard?to remind you to breathe, mindfully and deeply?(and tell yourself out loud using your name ... i.e. "Breathe, Jill").?

In stressful situations and/or?emergencies ...?when you find yourself starting to feel tense, anxious, or in pain, use your breathing to calm you ...?take 3 to 5 mindful breaths ... but even one can make a difference.?

GRATITUDE NOW!

???Savor and Appreciate Every Bite????

Whenever and wherever you begin eating… take a moment… and take three deep… slow… breaths… ??? breathe in… and breathe out… breathe in… and breathe out… breathe in… and breathe out… ???

Now take a moment to ask your body how it feels... note any feelings that arise.. any physical and mental discomfort that come up… and breathe into it… relax ??… and continue to be aware of any further discomfort that arises… and breathe it away… ??

Whenever you eat… take a moment to see the food and appreciate its appearance ??… take in its texture… color… smell… ????? how you feel about it… breathe… ????

Now take the first bite mindfully… noticing its taste and texture… roll the bite around in your mouth… chew it mindfully… slowly… deliberately… feeling every movement of your mouth… and when you finally swallow… note the food’s passage down to your stomach… breathe… ??? and notice any physical sensations that arise…?

If your mind starts to wander, gently bring your attention back to the process of eating. And with the next mindful bite… repeat the above process… taking a moment to experience the food sensorially… breathe… ??? rolling it around in your mouth… chewing it deliberately… swallowing and noting the passage of the food down to your stomach.

And with this bite and every one afterwards… express gratitude for the meal. Say to yourself or… if you feel comfortable… say aloud… “I am grateful for this [name of food]” ??. Or “When I eat [name of food] I feel grateful and happy”… or anything else you’d like to say to show your gratitude for the food…?

As you do… if you want… notice a white or golden light surrounding you. Feel a lightness… happiness… breathe. ??? Continue in this way as long as you like… as long as the bites of food last… taking each bite mindfully… expressing gratitude out loud or in your mind for the nourishment that the food has given you with every bite… ????

Reflect on the experience of eating and any insights that arose for you during the eating experience… then go about your day with the food… the experience… the gratitude… and the lightness following you throughout the day. ??
