Food Rescue US Mid-Year Updates: Join us in support of this great cause!

As we approach the midyear mark for 2024, it's a great time to revisit and reaffirm our commitment to supporting Food Rescue US. At Civic Initiatives, we pledged that a portion of every dollar from our clients would support this cause throughout 2024. Additionally, we've been working to create volunteer opportunities for our team to engage with and understand this critical issue firsthand.

Food Rescue US is committed to eliminating hunger and food waste, preventing food from ending up in landfills, and reducing greenhouse gases. This effort addresses two significant issues: food waste and food insecurity.

Here are some new achievements they've accomplished so far this year:

  1. National Coordination During Food Waste Prevention Week: For the first time in its 11-year history, Food Rescue US coordinated resources across 18 states for a massive rescue operation from hundreds of Panera cafes in early April. As Panera updated its menu, volunteers picked up surplus inventory and delivered it directly to social service agencies serving individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. This initiative harnessed the collective energy of 20 Food Rescue US sites, 12 partner rescue organizations, and 9 national food donor relationships, providing food recovery coverage for hundreds of locations. This effort positively impacted tens of thousands of lives.
  2. Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix Rescue: In an impressive feat, over 90,000 pounds of food were rescued from the Formula 1 Race in Miami. You can read more about this incredible effort here .
  3. Grant and Technological Advancements: Food Rescue US was awarded a $200,000 grant to design, pilot, and implement an API with Point of Sale provider TOAST, which will provide food rescue opportunities for their 100,000+ restaurant customers. This technological advancement is a game-changer in expanding food rescue efforts nationwide.

At Civic Initiatives, we are proud to contribute our time, talent, and resources to support this great organization.

Food rescue is a powerful tool to tackle food waste and hunger, making a tangible difference in our communities and the environment. Everyone can contribute to this initiative, whether through volunteering, contributions, or raising awareness. Together, we can build a more sustainable and equitable food system.

Let's Fill Plates. Not Landfills.
