Food Preoccupation

Do you think about food all the time?

Do you spend time thinking how to eat, how NOT to eat, what to eat, what to avoid, where to eat, where NOT to eat, checking the ingredients or avoiding biscuit and crisps isles, because food haunts you??

Thinking about food can be if you want to be healthy and you are trying to do everything right and do your best.?

Also, food preoccupation can be if you are struggling with health and you are trying so hard to lose weight or implement healthier habits, but as you are not getting anywhere, you are so consumed with how you can break the cycle.?

I am here today to help you to pay attention to WHY you are doing it in the first place??

Let’s play a game. Take pen and paper and write the answers down:?

  • If you DON’T spend much time thinking about food, what do you think it might happen??
  • If that happens, how would you feel about yourself?
  • What outcome are you trying to avoid or are you trying to prevent happening?
  • How much time do you spend focusing on food every day? Can you put minutes/hours to it??
  • How does it make you feel when you think about food?
  • If you do something wrong, what do you tell yourself?
  • Is that true?
  • Do you feel better/healthier for it or do you feel exhausted and tired from it all??
  • From 1 (lowest) -10 (highest) how much do you think food occupies your mind??
  • Is thinking about food causing you distress?
  • If you carry on doing what you are doing right now, where do you see yourself in 3-5 years time??
  • What is the going to happen if you don’t change how you think and feel about food?
  • How different your life would be if you spent less time thinking about food?
  • How your life would be if you had total freedom from thinking about food?
  • What would you be able to do then that you can't do now?
  • How would you feel about yourself if you just felt hungry, ate and moved on with your day??

Food preoccupation normally comes from following…?

  • Black and white thinking - thinking food is "good" or "bad".
  • Lack of understanding how much mindset can affect your relationship with food that affects your behaviours.
  • You don’t feel good enough for being the way you are so you keep trying to change it.?
  • Fear of the outcome - illness, weight challenges, body image issues.
  • Food became go-to for all your emotions and life's challenges.
  • Comfort and safety in controlling food.

Bottom line is:?

Food has got a power over you.?

You might not even be aware of it, but you have given the food all the power and you are now just managing yourself around food.

Here is my 5 top tips how you can find a solution for this challenge:

  1. Get very clear what you want your outcome to be (get very specific about your goal and know what do you exactly want). When you know exactly your goal, you are going to be able to have a direction to work towards it.
  2. Work on your mindset. Shifting perspective is very important, because you have to find a peace within yourself to have a happy and fulfilling life. (for me the best people for mindset are Tony Robbins, Brendon Burchard, Mel Robbins)
  3. Follow evidence based nutrition - my favourite are Layne Norton, Holly Baxter, Alan Aragon, Martin MacDonald, Sigma Nutrition Radio Podcast.
  4. Self awareness, self reflection and self regulation. This can be achieved by working on yourself, through personal development, coaching, therapy, journaling, meditation, self care.
  5. Get help from someone who is qualified, who has been where you are right now and who is now where you want to be.
