Food labeling is a legal requirement in many countries of the world. In Nigeria, registered food manufacturing companies are required to label their food products. Large scale food manufacturing companies abide by this requirement to a large extent.
Asides large scale food manufacturers, we also have SMEs who are doing a great job to keep the food value chain running.
As a food SME you can stand out from the crowd by including labels on your packaged food. Don't assume that consumers do not read them or need them. They do, we do. Moreover, we're also encouraging those who haven't cultivated the culture of reading food labels to start doing so.
Consumers reserve the right to know the ingredients that makeup the food they're buying, the nutritional composition, quantity, mode of preparation, storage condition and the production batch details of the food. What better way to communicate these details than through a label at a glance.
It's a new year, let's do things differently.
If setting up a food SME is your goal for 2022, then you must make provision for a detailed food label.
Food safety is everyone's business! Happy new year dear reader.

2 年Sincerely, any food that is not ""properly labelled"" shouldn't be seen anywhere in the market, let alone sold out to the table of final consumers. Our food markets are too porous... Learn to read the labels prior buying and not allow advances in packaging technology deceive you... We're what we eat!!! Thank You.

2 年Some people go as far as selling this expired drinks at a very cheap rate compared to the actually price and ignorant Nigerians that like cheap things will go for it. It is a call to everyone to stand for that which is right and ensure everything we take into our body system is safe. Constant sensitization of consumers should be done often so as to cure their ignorance.
