A Five day week!?
It is isn't it? It feels weird after two shorter weeks to be looking at a full working week! It's strange how we can adapt to the easier things so much quicker than the hard stuff isn't it? I could get used to this four day week malarkey, but duty calls. So, to get my head back in the game I am applying the chunking down approach, a classic sprout-sweater strategy. I'm focusing on getting this one thing done, for now and then I'll move onto something else.
Sprout-sized food for thought:
Last week, I introduced the question what is your relationship with food (and drink) like? Over the coming weeks I am going to explore the three elements I spoke about (physical, social, emotional) and lay out some of my thinking on this.
So, this week, the easy one (ha!). The physical. In other words, how can separating out the role food plays in supporting us physically help us in regaining some control over our eating? In this short snippet taken from episode 107 of the podcast, I offer some thoughts and provide some ideas on how this might be able to help us practically when looking to curb what we eat in small but significant ways.

On the Pod:
It's ?Episode 107? This week I am continuing my exploration of the role food (and drink) plays in our lives and the complex nature of our relationship with it. I explore the physical and functional role food plays and attempt to find ways in which this could help us as we move forward in a more positive relationship with it. Let me know your thoughts or if you feel I've missed anything as this is my attempt at laying out my thinking and is very much a work in progress and being shaped all the time by my own experiences and those of clients. Too busy to...?
Ok, so I know being swamped with the demands of life and work can feel stressful and overwhelming.?I've experienced that feeling of panic and despair myself and also felt the sense of helplessness and self-recrimination that comes from it.
It's tough, so I am not trying to minimise the situation you may have found yourself in.
But,?it is worth asking the question.?Does being in this state actually serve?you in some deeper way?
Does it make you feel worthy??Needed??Valid?
Does it mean you can dream of making a change - you know that goal you really want to get to, whether that's a health goal, a business ambition or a state of mind? Does it mean you can dream of it, escape into it in those stolen moments away from the frenetic pace of your life, but never actually move towards it? read full post here

MidLifer Chronicles - Forgetting and Remembering?(part 27)
Over in my e-newsletter, I have been charting my own journey wrestling with midlife, health and weight. You can read this and previous blogs?here. Here's a taster from instalment 27:
It's back to a full week this week and, yesterday, as I was getting myself set up for the week ahead, I was reminded of an experience I used to have when working in the police and returning from a long holiday period. of usually two weeks or so.
Like most, I loved my holidays, even if we weren't doing anything particularly exciting, because it gave me a chance to decompress and effectively forget about the job for a while. It would usually take a couple of days to properly unwind and then I would find myself really forgetting about the job (most times anyway). The thing was, something strange would happen when I considered getting back to work on the days or so before the return.
I would feel like I had forgotten how to actually be a cop. Obviously within 5 minutes of walking back through whatever station door i happened to be posted at, it would feel like I'd never been away, but I always found that feeling a little disconcerting, but also quite nice.
It showed the power of truly switching off, something which I have struggled with over my life, but when achieved can be incredibly valuable.
But, what it also showed me was how flexible and adaptable we can be. We can and do change and flex. Some more readily than others, but usually action and being immersed the activities that are different are what shift and change us (read full chronicle here).
5 Ways I can help you:
That's it for this week, so all it leaves me to do is share how I and my resources can help you:

Here's one of my Daily Sprout videos. Over the years I created 500 of them. They are all around one minute or less.
That's it for this week. Let me know your thoughts and feedback or things you would like me to cover in the future.
