Following Passion is the Pathway to Success
Md Nazrul Islam -
Major General (Retd), served for 36 years in Bangladesh Army. Held various command, staff and instructional appointments.
All human beings in the world are different from one another. Those who could secure a position in the history basing on their achievements and works – they all had their intrinsic passion and unique devotion. Most of us know the greatest artist Leonardo da Vinci who is well-known for his painting “Mona Lisa”. But he had hardly any institutional knowledge and academic accreditation. Studying in his spare time he became renown with his inspired artistic version. It was believed that he took 12 years to paint the lips of Mona Lisa and 16 years (1503 to 1519) for her smile. This glaring example is the testament of passion which made him indelible in the history of art and painting.

?If you follow the footprint of others, you may not reach to the top. Here “footprint” means following others wishes and desire. You should automatically form some unique desires in your subconscious mind. Then you dedicate yourself and put all your energy to fulfill the burning desire. Within 24 hours of a day, if more than 10 times your desire drags you to think on that issue, probably that is your passion. Passion is automatically formed out of an idea. However, living environment, educational system, social arrangement, parents, relatives and the association where you hang around may also contribute in forming passion. Passion has to be followed appropriately. Because it’s the real source of happiness.
?
There are few challenges to follow passion as well. These are like financial instability, social pressure, fear of unknown and fear of failure, fear to face competitive nature of the field, family obligation and work life balance. And in worst cases getting burn out due to some known or unknown reasons. All human being forms some kind of passion in life. With the passage of time these passions become obsolete with or without judgment. In context of Bangladesh, we hardly value the aspiration, passion, goal, liking and disliking of our youngsters. We think that they don’t have enough wisdom and sagacity to take decision at their own. Parents and environment compel them to adopt a course of action selected by their guardian. This is the first nail to follow passion of any individual in most of the cases.
?
Albert Edison displayed extreme passion, after tying 10000 times, he invented tungsten bulb. Did we fail like him to listen the sound of our heart? Probably not. We all know the name of William Henry Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, the richest man in the world and one of the most inspiring personalities in recent time. He had to work hard following his passion to become what he is today. He developed a passion for computer at the age of 13. His great saying “If you don’t build your dreams, someone else will hire you to build theirs”. Passion provides fuel and energy to work.
?
Very recently, in Bangladesh, one some Mr Belayet Hossain at the age of 55 got chance for admission in the Borendra University, Rajshahi under Journalism Department. He repeatedly failed to get admission and became the headline of newspaper and social media. Starting his education at 11th grade at the age of 50 he proved that passion must not die enroute in the face of any odds.
Leonel Messi has left an unfathomable legacy of passion in playing football. Even at the age of 13 when he was detected with Growth Hormone Deficiency, he did not stop. He was rejected, humiliated and ultimately depressed. But with the support of his family who believed him, he moved beyond the Atlantic to Spain and join FC Barcelona with a heavy heart. On this episode he denounced setback and said, “I made sacrifices by leaving Argentina, leaving my family to start a new life. I changed my friends, my people. Everything. Everything I did, did for football, to achieve my dream.” Needless to say, unless you throw yourself with head, heart and hand, you cannot make a history but you may achieve victory. Because, making history takes historical efforts.

Here, determination and passion will work together hand in hand.
