Following My Passions: How I Accidentally Found My Dream Career in Product Management

We all have a career path in mind, but sometimes the journey to finding our dream job can be unexpected. For me, it all started with a passion for technology and customer service. As I ventured down different career paths, I never imagined that it would lead me to product management. However, as I look back on my journey, I realise that it was the perfect role for me.

My career journey started in IT and customer support. I enjoyed working with people and technology, but I started to become more interested in the business side of things. I wanted to make a bigger impact, not just solving one customer's problem at a time. I wanted to create products that would make a difference in people's lives.

My turning point was that I realised that product management could combine my passion for technology, business, and customer needs. However, I never thought I would land a job in product management. I experienced this imposter syndrome firsthand when I stumbled upon an opening for a product manager role. I didn't think I was qualified enough to apply. However, after some encouragement from my colleagues and their unwavering support, I decided to go for it.?

After what felt like an eternity of waiting, I finally received the news: I had gotten the job! While I was thrilled with the news, I still couldn't help but feel like I didn't deserve it. As a product manager, I was able to work cross-functionally with different teams and stakeholders to develop products that meet customer needs. I enjoyed every aspect of the job, from ideation to product launch. It was challenging, but also incredibly rewarding to see the impact of my work.

Looking back, I realise that every experience and skill I had learned along my career journey led me to become a product manager. I had always enjoyed working with people and technology, and I had a natural curiosity about business and customer needs. It was only when I stumbled into the role that I realised how well it suited me.

Becoming a product manager was not part of my original career plan, but it was the perfect role for me. I found my dream job by following my passions and taking risks. If you're feeling uncertain about your career path, take a step back, think about your passions and what you enjoy doing, and explore different opportunities.
