Follow Your Own Road

If you are a fan of American football, you know the name, Barry Sanders.

As a running back for the Detroit Lions, Sanders was one of the best running backs to ever play in the NFL. As a highly touted draft pick in 1989, even the most astute football analysts could not have predicted how Sanders would change the running back position.

Sanders was so talented that opposing teams would plan specifically for him and even then he succeeded with jaw-dropping runs and a display of talent rarely seen.

His worst season ever was in 1993 when he rushed for 1,115 yards. He accomplished this total in 11 games whereas many "elite" running backs today consider 1,000 yards in 17 games a high achievement.

To put it simply, Sanders was the best of the best.

And in 1998 at the age of 30, he walked away from the game and retired.?

He could have easily gone on to break the all-time rushing record, sign another lucrative contract and go down in history as the greatest, but instead, at his prime, he chose to retire.

The retirement announcement took all by surprise as this was not logical. This was not the way it was supposed to be. Sanders was to lead the Lions to Super Bowl and claim GOAT status.

However, Sanders went with his own script and decided to move on.

Much like Sanders, your Life Design choices may not make sense to others. It may not follow?their?script for your life. It may not be the next logical step that they think you should take.

And here is the thing . . . it does not matter .

One of the things that derails people's Life Design plan the most is the expectations of others.

What will they think? What will they say? How will they respond?

Getting input from others close to you can be valuable, but do not allow them to design your life or permit their expectations to dictate your decisions.

You cannot control the response of others, but you can control how you construct your life to be the best one possible for YOU.

On The Journey With You,
