Focussed on growth: a look back on 2022

Whilst much of December still lies ahead, I thought I would take the opportunity for a brief look back on a few of the thrills (and not too many spills!) of 2022….

Reaffirming and validating our value proposition

The first 6 months were all about establishing a stable platform for growth. During the period we were delighted to successfully renew long-term agreements with Asda , Waitrose & Partners , and also Sainsbury's , who we have now been working with for over 16 years – a concrete endorsement of our approach to partnerships.

A good amount of time and energy was spent helping everyone that we talk to, to better understand who we are and why we do what we do. From a marketing perspective, we relaunched our website which is now an excellent representation of our proposition. Enabling retail efficiency. Building better businesses. Seeking mutual opportunity through intelligent partnerships.

With our app now live on over 32,000 devices in UK retail we are actively talking to existing and prospective partners about how they can leverage our established capabilities further, across multiple categories, to realise more efficiencies. We are trusted and famous for standardising and streamlining complex retail store processes. There is firm acceptance regarding what rascal brings to the table in terms of our data services. We receive, process, clean and unify significant volumes of messy data sets from multiple sources for complex categories, redistributing them back to retailers and suppliers. Reducing unnecessary friction. Driving out cost. Improving operating margins.

Expanding our Power BI capabilities???

One of the most exciting developments of the year for me, has been how our business has embraced Power BI – the tool we selected for data visualisation. What a game changer! Gone are the days of rows and columns of numbers. Now presented in an interactive and intuitive presentation layer – our data outputs can be accessed, understood and, most importantly, acted upon by anyone and everyone, enabling swift change and progress.???

Human contact

A highlight of the last year has been getting out and about and meeting people in person on a consistent basis again. Sitting behind screens on endless video calls is not a preferred pastime! In October I enjoyed attending #TheConvenienceConference. It was an excellent day with engaging speakers and a good opportunity to see and speak to some known and some new faces.

I look forward to continuing this trend and will be at the Retail Technology Show in April if anyone wants to arrange a meeting.

The overall backdrop for retail in 2022 has been a challenge, reflecting the reality being felt by all of us as consumers. It looks as though 2023 is set to follow a similar path, however from a business point of view I remain highly positive and look forward to rascal systems continuing to make a genuine difference to retailer head offices and colleagues in stores across the UK.
