Focusing on the health side of "Health and Safety"

We have taken the health and wellbeing of our people at OCS ANZ to the next level.

In our company objectives we talk about sustainability, both for our business and employees and while we can put performance measures in place, a more holistic approach is needed.

As everyone’s lives get busier and work-life balance becomes so important, measuring whether we are all on track can become a lot harder.

Recently we engaged with Dr Tom Mulholland who has developed an app called KYND.

Dr Tom, as he is known, is a high profile emergency department doctor and GP with more than 25 years’ experience in New Zealand.

He has spent a lot of time in different workplaces and seen how work-related stress, high blood pressure, anxiety and, in some cases, depression affect many New Zealanders.

When you meet Dr Tom it is hard not to get caught up in his health and wellbeing enthusiasm and his KYND app is a tool that OCS ANZ has invested in to help our team.

Dr Tom says just like people use Xero for their finances, KYND helps measure your personal wellbeing. It’s all about “knowing your numbers” and how that effects, mind, body and social wellbeing.

KYND Body gives you a score on what you look like on the inside, blood results, cholesterol etc. KYND Mind gives you a score on how you think and feel.

We are currently trialing the app and recently Dr Tom brought his team to the head office in Auckland to present to our team and give them the option of undertaking medical tests.

Other sites that will be trialing it include Auckland Museum, Christchurch Airport, and the Timaru branch.

It’s one thing measuring wellness and another putting in the right drivers to make it happen.

We are still in our early stages of trialing the app but we know there are a number of drivers to successful wellbeing. These include teamwork, recognition and providing a supportive environment to work in.

One thing Dr Tom is sure about - KYND is going to be good for our business, our customers and our community.

Well-being in the workplace is simply glossed over too quickly by so many companies so it's great to see you "walking the talk" Gareth. I've downloaded the app myself and will start to work with it.
