FOCUSED LinkedIn Daily* Plan for Your Profile

FOCUSED LinkedIn Daily* Plan for Your Profile

While meeting with a client recently, I was discussing how LinkedIn is designed to keep you on the site longer.

It make sense, if you think about it. LinkedIn is a business. The longer you stay on LinkedIn:

  • The more ads they can show you. (generating $$$$ for LinkedIn)
  • The more they can try to upsell you to a paid / premium membership. (generating $$$$ for LinkedIn)

And we all know there's a whole algorithm running behind the scene, designed to show you items that LinkedIn thinks you'll be interested in.

My advice? Go in with a Plan.

Otherwise, LinkedIn will make the plan for you.

So on that note, here's my recommended FOCUSED LinkedIn Daily* Plan for your Profile.

Follow this as you navigate onto LinkedIn each day / week / month if you have limited time and you want to be FOCUSED on your efforts!

(personally, I'd also SAVE this for future reference...)

FOCUSED LinkedIn Daily* Plan for your Profile

Daily is asterisked "*" because you can use this plan for when you DO visit LinkedIn. You might not visit it daily (and that's OK!). You might visit it only once a week, or once a month, or even less frequently. I recommend visiting at least once a week. I also recommend doing these tasks in this order. If you don't have time, still do what you can in the order listed here.

  1. Spend a few minutes in the homepage. Scroll through and see what people are posting. Click on like / react for any posts that are even mildly interesting to you. Add a thoughtful comment (8+ words) to a few posts, if anything is particularly meaningful or relevant to your LinkedIn goals. WHY: This helps with two items. 1) Keeping you engaged with your network and 2) Training and shaping the algorithm to share more relevant content with you.
  2. Click on "Messaging." Reply back to anything needing a response. "Star" messages needing further follow-up. Archive anything non-relevant or completed. WHY: These are direct messages (DMs) which might provide opportunities for you. Reviewing and keeping it tidy are key!
  3. Click on "Notifications." Then, click on "Mentions" to see if you've been tagged anywhere needing a response. Next, click on "My Posts" to see if anyone has commented on your post. If so, respond. WHY: If people are talking about you publicly in their (or your posts), they want to know that you've seen it. Plus it's just good etiquette to respond. ??
  4. Go back to "Home" and post something. If you're struggling with what to post, do a "Repost" or "Repost with your thoughts." If you're more advanced, focus on new content that will be helpful, insightful, or educating for your ideal target audience, and that will invite them to comment. WHY: Posting on LinkedIn at least weekly helps to keep you top of mind, while strengthening you as a thought leader for your ideal target audience.
  5. Click on "My Network." Then click in the left navigation under "Manage my network" on "Connections." This will show you recently added connections. Click "Message" next to their names to make sure you've sent a follow-up message to recently-added connections. WHY: most business is generated by LinkedIn connections that we move OFF of LinkedIn. That process starts with a DM.
  6. Go back to "My Network" and click "Show all" to see pending invitation requests. First, click on "People" and then "Accept" anyone who looks familiar or a good fit for your network. For those who've included a message, click "reply" first before accepting. Click "Ignore" on those who are irrelevant or hard selling. Time (and your patience!) permitting, go through the other categories, one-by-one: "Events" then "Pages" then "Newsletters." WHY: network growth will fuel your LinkedIn progress, but only if you're adding in relevant connections. Also, going through these invitations one category at a time is easier for our brains to process...
  7. Meander. No, I'm just kidding. ?????? But if you've knocked off all other items in the list, pick another area of LinkedIn to navigate, that supports your business goals, such as:

-- Searching for new connections. Use filters!

-- Reading / commenting on "LinkedIn News" articles in the upper-right side of your desktop homepage

-- Navigating to and engaging within relevant groups

-- Using your LinkedIn premium feature, see "Who's Viewed Your Profile" and invite relevant visitors to connect

-- Look at profile Followers and invite relevant members to connect

That's it! Follow this checklist and you'll be well on your way to maximizing your time and results on LinkedIn. I'll be publishing a "Company Page" version of this checklist soon on MellerMarketing.com . Give my page a follow and you'll be notified when that newsletter is up!

So true, Brenda! Distraction is a?huge?challenge on LinkedIn, it can easily pull us away from our goals if we’re not careful.
