Focus, Ways of Working, Approach & Mindset, Org & People

I was very inspired by what I learned from the speakers and attendees at the Agile Consortium Conference in Belgium in February this year, in particular Diana Russo .

Diana's presentation and her workshop had my brain firing like crazy. Why don't we put the Key Elements into a more logical order? Why don't we create an assessment tool, or "scanner" as she calls it?

You may be familiar with the original infographic showing the Key Elements of Business Agility. Original article published here.

The Elements have been introduced in what appears to be a slightly random order. Looking at the oval infographic, the first 10 Elements are (sort of) in the middle and the remaining 11 are around them.

What if we created some categories? How would they look?

To help tidy them up a little we can start by grouping them into the following 4 Categories: Focus, Ways of Working, Approach & Mindset, Organisation & People.

1. Focus: What should we and the team Focus on as we approach a task?

2. Ways of Working: How do we Work together for peak performance?

3. Approach & Mindset: What is our Approach & Mindset towards the task?

4. Org & People: How should the Organisation and the People be looked after?

Let me know what you think of this.

There are probably some Elements which could be in other groups. For example, Small Tasks & Cycles could make an argument for being part of Approach & Mindset. But hopefully this will help us get started.

When assessing ourselves, our teams and our organisations, it may make sense to use these groupings to help us focus in on what we may want to focus on first.

The Assessment Tool based on all this is available and I will post about it soon.

Wow, great to see this iteration on your previous version! A quick scan is such a powerful starting point amidst the complexity and chaos to improving organizational agility. So now, the next step is to focus on interdependencies and patterns between the Elements :-). Looking forward to the 'end' result ??
