WaveRider Continuous Right Sizing Service
AWS offers an amazing variety of compute instances and resources to suite the differing needs of thousands of applications. However, if the needs of the workload vary during runtime, there’s no way to change compute instances on-the-fly. A common result is expensive compute instances are deployed for only short periods of peak usage.
The WaveRider continuous right-sizing services addresses this issue by providing the granularity and automation needed to automatically surf to smaller and larger instances based on their real-time resource needs.
WaveRider is made possible by patented AppCapsule snapshots that encapsulate an entire application state including memory, storage, cache, registers, etc. Once an AppCapsule is generated, the workload can surf across local compute instances, regions, or clouds.
Example of how WaveRider works
Shown above, an AppCapsule is floated from a smaller 16vCPU instance to a larger 32vCPU instance for a period of peak usage, then back to a smaller instance when less resources are needed. When the job is complete, WaveRider terminates the instance to make sure your meter does not keep running. Get started free, or learn more by downloading The Skinny on Memory Machine Cloud Edition.

Right Sizing is an Ongoing Process
Right sizing is the process of matching instance types and sizes to your workload performance and capacity requirements at the lowest possible cost. It’s also the process of looking at deployed instances and identifying opportunities to eliminate or downsize without compromising capacity or other requirements, which results in lower costs.
