Focus On This One Thing To Become A Successful Top-Notch Copywriter

Dear LinkedIn Friends,?

Today’s consumers are a lot like my four teenagers…

They think they know everything...

And that they're fully capable of making decisions on their own.?

This is because your consumers can find out all about your product or service on the web…

Just like my teenagers, your consumers don’t need you to tell them about your product or service…?

Much less what they should do when it comes to purchasing.?

So, how do you successfully convince them to shop and buy??

The most efficient way to get them to buy is to write copy that is a true testament to the way your consumers research, shop, and buy.?

To achieve this you have to have a deep understanding of who your buyers are, your specific niche, and exactly what influences the purchase decisions.?

I’m going to tell you exactly how to do develop this deep understanding but first does this sound familiar?

The Hardest Working Mailman On The Block

Our neighborhood is a normal small-town Utah neighborhood.

Everyone is super friendly and we all spend random times during the day talking to each other.?

This is why our old mailman Mark fit right in.?

If he saw you outside while he was walking around delivering the mail he would stop and talk for a few minutes.?

If you needed an extra hand in your garage or moving something Mark would help you.?

I asked Mark one time how far he usually walked during his eight-hour shift??

He said it was normally somewhere between 10 to 12 miles. He did this every day, five days a week.?

A couple of months ago Mark disappeared. I’m not sure if he got resigned or where he went…

But our new mailman is nothing like Mark. He doesn’t stop to talk to people, doesn’t walk, doesn’t even get out of his mail truck.?

He just pulls as close as he can get to the mailboxes, shoves the mail in, and then takes off to the next mailbox.?

Our new mailman is also about the same size as the mail truck itself.?

Mark didn’t have to put in all the extra work walking and he definitely didn’t have to be as friendly as he was.?

He Did It Because He Enjoyed Doing It!

It’s no different with your consumers!?

You have to put in hard work getting to know them by doing your market research.?

This is the nuts and bolts of being able to passionately write top-notch copy.?

I’ve written copy for the last two years in several different niches…

And I’ve noticed it’s easier to write copy in a niche you’re actually interested in.?

Why??

Because you are actually dedicated to putting in the time and effort into your market research because to you it’s interesting.?

Putting in the work with research is extremely important because it allows you to meet your buyer where they are.?

As our world becomes louder and demands more attention, being able to meet your buyer wherever they are at is invaluable.?

To accomplish this you have to understand your buyer’s problems, pain points, and desired solutions.?

Once you have this understanding you can capitalize your copy to naturally appeal to them.?

The Number One Way To Write Revenue Driven Copy Is To Create ABUYER’S PERSONAS.

These are just generalized representations of your ideal customer.?

When you’re writing copy you should write as if you were talking to just one person.?

The way you paint a picture of this one person is by creating a buyer’s persona as you research.

Some key characteristics that you should include in your buyer’s persona are:

Age

Gender

Location

Job Titles

Family Size

Income

Major Challenges

The idea is to use your persona as a guideline for checking out the real audience members of your industry.?

Now that you have the buyers persona you can ask these four questions to pinpoint their problems, pain points, and desired solutions:

  1. What problems do your consumers have and what are the solutions to these problems? This should be the first thing you establish in your research. By finding the problems and the solutions you have found the right rabbit hole to go down.?
  2. What do your consumers buy now? You’re looking for information that describes their buying habits related to your product or service.
  3. Why do they buy? This is the tricky one, but also the most important. This is because it dives into consumers’ heads. The answers will depend on the product and its uses.?
  4. What will make them buy from you? The answer to this lies in what’s unique about your product or service that makes it different and better than any other brand??

Here’s The Real Deal

I know that if you are truly passionate about what you are writing about then you will strive to provide unique value through your research.?

This unique value is what will get your consumers to purchase your product or service.?

But maybe you’re busy leading a team or sheepherding multiple projects and you don’t have time to research…

In this case, the best thing you can do is to hire a copywriter who is loyal to your niche and has a demonstrated history of knowing what kind of hard work it takes to write successful copy.?

For example, I’m a copywriter who works in the golf niche.?

I’m very loyal to the game of golf. I play twice a week, practice twice a week, and center my daily workouts around golf.?

I also have a demonstrated history of successfully writing for the thriving golf industry.?

Trust Golf, 18 Birdies, and Puma/Cobra Golf have all reported an increase in customers thanks to the copy that I’ve written for them.??

It’s no different in any other niche or industry out there!

The best thing you can do is to find a copywriter who is loyal to your niche or industry…?

And is not afraid to roll up their sleeves and do a little research…?

This is the number one way to write successful copy.?

May the Golf gods bless you,

Bobbie Lee
