Focus on the moments that matter
At EY, we’re learning more and more about what EY people want and need to build meaningful careers.?
In addition to the investments we’re making in programs, processes and learning, we’re placing greater?emphasis on the moments that matter. That is, all of the little things that add up to create an exceptional?career experience.??
Focusing on these moments means more to me now than it ever has, as my eldest son graduates high?school this year and heads off to university in September. That’s a lot of little moments I’m grateful for –?and they’ve led to a big and very proud milestone for our family.??
Work is also full of those moments that can light up your day, make you smile or bring you joy. There’s?nothing more important than those everyday interactions that make you feel good – like the times when?your contributions – or simply what you bring as an individual – are really recognized.??
Our fiscal year ends this month. Every year, I seize those little moments by taking the time to reflect and?thank our people for a year of incredibly hard work. This year brought many highlights I’m incredibly proud?of.??

We stepped up our recruiting efforts during a time when companies are struggling to hire and retain?people. This included campaigns to bring in specific skills and more diverse candidates to serve EY?clients, changing the way we onboard, streamlining our hiring process – and more. We took bold steps to?undergo transformation and invest in experience drivers like flexible career paths and customizable?learning – all while cultivating a culture of belonging.??
In addition to recognition, this time of year also brings another opportunity: to look beyond productivity?and achievements and think about what we need to thrive as we embark on our next fiscal year –?sometimes it’s just about being human.?
Let’s face it: companies have been dealing with a lot. At times it can feel like we’re all swimming?upstream. I have no doubt our world-class Talent team will continue to play a critical role in driving our?business forward. But for now, I am urging them to take some time to reflect, unwind and catch up on the?important moments with loved ones.??
Here in Canada, it’s the start of summer. It’s the best time of the year and it doesn’t last long. I hope July?and August brings all of EY people – and all of you reading – some well-deserved time off to recharge. I’ll?be spending time at our family cottage before my son departs for university. It’s a family tradition we look?forward to every summer, but this year it will mean more to me than ever.?
