How to discover your focus
We need to discover where your focus is at the moment.
That's what this session is about. The question is what areas of your life would you say need
more focus from you right now? It might be your personal life, your relationships, your health, your fitness, your mindset, whatever it is in your personal life, it could be in your professional life, absolutely need to focus more here, I need to be more productive, more effective when I'm at work, relationship based personal or professional relationships. Whatever it is for you that needs more focus in your life, write it down for yourself now.?
Link into this, what are your three biggest goals in your personal life, that you want to achieve over the next three months? Some of you will be going, I don't have any goals in my personal life, I understand that, not many people do, so start writing some, start making some. Some of you may well have goals already in your personal life, if you have, great, write them down for yourself, people set goals in their professional life all of the time, they don't set goals in their personal life, why not?
Is it not important to achieve things in their personal life? It should be, now write down whatever you've written on your piece of paper, why is each one of those important to you? When things are hard and when I don't feel like doing it and when all of these things are going on, I feel like I don't have time or whatever, what is the thing that's going to drive you to make sure you make it happen?
That's your motive, the reason why. I want to be very present in my personal relationships, I want to be there, not distracted and doing loads of emails. That's a goal, right? set being goals, I want to be present and I want to be loving, I want to be charged, I want to be more like this, right? That's the goal, right? Set yourself relating goals, relationship goals in your personal life. For example, a relationship goal for me and my personal life, will be with my wife, if I want to make that relationship strong, I have to be doing things to invest in it. You know? So once a month prioritise a day, we go out together, just me and her with no work, and it's just me and her time.?
Moving from the personal life to the professional life, what are the three biggest goals in your professional life that you want to achieve in the next three months? Write down some things in your life, in your professional life that you want to achieve in three months from now, why are each of them important to you as well?
Write them down, maybe as you want to be a better leader, right? You want to be a better communicator. And now look at all that stuff you've written down on your piece of paper at the moment and what I want to encourage you to do is break them down into how you're going to get them done. I want to be able to come into your life and see in 30 days, this is the goal. And that means every week for the next four weeks, I've got a weekly goal that moves me closer to the 30 day goal, right? Because goals aren't this kind of thing that we should just have an esoteric kind of thing up in the air here, an idea or something, or some kind of idea, maybe I'll do something. This is where I'm going, this is exactly how I'm going to get there, and this is what I need to do today to move myself to the next step. Right. Break them down into that detail. Okay.
The final question for you on focus, are there areas of your life where your focus at the moment is being stolen away by distractions or competing interests? We live in this distracted world,

people are so distracted., They're constantly kind of jumping from this thing to that thing, to this thing, to that thing. And we're losing the ability to do deep work, to kind of immerse in something.
The difference between distractions and competing interests, just so you understand, competing interest are all of the important things that are vying for your time. But if we are lots of distraction, we never have a chance of getting to the competing interest. It's like my health is a competing interest, that competes for my time, exercise, my sleep is a competing interest, my family is a competing interest.
My work is a competing interest. They're all important things to me, but if I'm distracted, I have no chance of doing a really good job in the important things right. So, to get to our competing interests, well, we must kill distractions. So, what is it for you that is distracting you taking you away from your competing interests and what do you know you could do immediately to improve it?
Write some things down now about what you've just written down on your piece of paper. What could you do today that would improve that if you had the discipline, if you had the courage, maybe, if you had the motivation to take action in some of these areas, what are one, two or three things that you could do immediately that would protect you from distraction? And then you're able to act on those things, right? The process of just talking about it, make some discoveries, you make decisions and you act on the things, right.
And then something's different. And then you keep doing it.
