Focus on the good and the good gets better
Have you ever dismissed a quote as cliché, only to realise later how true it is? Lately, I’ve been reflecting on the idea: “If you focus on the good, the good gets better.” It’s simple, it’s powerful, and it’s undeniably real.
Our minds are astonishingly powerful. What we choose to focus on shapes not only our thoughts but also the way we experience the world. When we dwell on the negative—on what’s wrong, missing, or frustrating—it’s as though we’re planting seeds of dissatisfaction. The more we focus on them, the more they grow, until they overshadow the good that’s already in our lives.
But here’s the transformative part: the opposite is also true. When we focus on the good, those seeds grow instead. Gratitude, appreciation, and positivity begin to flourish, and the good we already have starts to multiply.
Eckhart Tolle once said, “You are not your thoughts; you are the awareness behind them.” That awareness gives us a choice. What happens if you choose to focus on the good? You start to see the beauty in the ordinary, the blessings in what you have, and the remarkable qualities in the people around you. On the flip side, focusing on the bad blinds us to those very things, leaving us stuck in a cycle of discontent.
Here’s the key realization: focusing on the good and focusing on the bad both take the same amount of energy. But only one of those choices allows us to grow, connect, and thrive.
This week’s Mindful Mondays is your gentle nudge to make that choice. Notice the good around you—whether it’s a kind word, a small success, or even just the fact that you’re here, reading this. Take a moment to appreciate the people in your life, not for what they lack but for what they bring.
The good does get better, but only if you let it. Let this week be the start of that shift. If you’re looking to spark meaningful conversations or explore this idea further, I’d love to hear from you.
So, what will you focus on today?
