The Focus Formula - Simple Ways to Beat Distractions and Skyrocket Your Productivity

How often does it happen to you?

You are at your desk with a long to-do list, the emails just keep coming, Slack messages are incoming, and you have a few meetings lined up.?

Sounds familiar, right?

The challenge isn’t about working harder, it’s about working smarter by tuning out distractions.

Do you know what’s the cost of distraction?

It can take an average of 23 minutes to refocus after an interruption.

That’s nearly a loss of half an hour.?

So next time, you glance at your phone for a minute there or get interrupted by a colleague for small talk, remember the time to get back can be critical.

However, we are social beings, and we do need small breaks. So instead of focusing on distractions, let’s focus on how to remain focused between distractions.

  1. Use the Power of Prioritisation

You must have heard about the Eisenhower Matrix. Divide your tasks into four quadrants

  1. Urgent & Important -? Do them right away
  2. Important but not Urgent -? Schedule these
  3. Urgent but not Important - Delegate these
  4. Neither Urgent nor Important - If possible, eliminate these

2. Block your Productive Hours

Dedicate certain hours for focused work. Use tools to help allocate specific hours and tasks and signal others when you are not to be disturbed.

3. Beat Procrastination?

The Pomodoro technique can be of help here. Work for 25 minutes, take a 5-minute break and repeat. After about 4-6 sessions, take a longer 15-30-minute break.?

It will help boost focus and prevent burnout.
