Focus

Focus

I have been pursuing the great insights that Gary Keller provides in his book The One Thing. My "One Thing" for this week is FOCUS. It is the ability to clearly see and follow certain pathways without being distracted. It is a trait that I sincerely need to gain.

I started by identifying specific behaviors the publications said I need to adapt to prevent distractions and focus. They started by identifying "distractions." This seems much too simple. How do you do this? We do not live in isolation and are constantly being interrupted by one thing or another.

The second recommendation was to take a limited amount of coffee to keep you sharp. I definitely do not know what this means. One cup, two or more.

I love the next one...something called Pomodoro, the practice of working for a specific period of time and then taking a break and repeating. I think that I do this already, perhaps too often.

Other recommendations included fueling the body, getting enough sleep, developing "to do" lists, and creating SMART Goals. Set milestones for myself, practice time management, find the type of motivation that works for me, and visualization were also suggested.

This "FOCUS" stuff is tough. I think that I need a map and compass to see and follow this pathway. How do you focus? What works for you?
