Focus on acne and scars with plasma effect

Interview with Dr. Noura Lebbar

We met Doctor Lebbar again to address a more specific topic regarding the treatments she practices daily on her patients. We focused on the use of the super selective plasma effect for the treatment of post-acne scars and active acne.

Multidisciplinary approach

As a cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Lebbar has a multidisciplinary approach and her patients, with a highly variable age, present various pathologies linked to both young age and advanced ageing. Therefore, Lebbar had to structure her therapeutic proposal in order to embrace and treat a disparity of skin pathologies.

Lebbar explains that she "always takes a conservative approach to the patient, trying to maintain the innate beauty characteristics. My goal is to slow down and prevent the signs of skin aging, I insist more on prevention than on invasive and radical treatments. My approach beyond prevention is always a minimally invasive one."

This working method has pushed her towards techniques with reduced invasiveness and products that do not distort the features of the face. Treatments

While for post-acne scars the technique is different, explains Lebbar: "I make spots around the depression of the scar, drawing small triangles around it. This allows me to obtain a lifting effect by stimulating the synthesis of collagen and elastic fibres."

Dr. Lebbar continues by saying that the use of the tool is not limited to acne and its outcomes. “With DAS medical it is possible to treat different types of scars, for example keloid scars for which I use another approach. It is a spray technique, which involves the continuous movement of the electrode on the surface to be treated, until the entire raised part is removed. As for flat scars, however, I perform microspots on the entire surface."

The patient

The recommendations for the patient following a plasma effect treatment are few and Dr. Lebbar summarizes them in 3 fundamental points:

1. avoid removing the scabs, which fall off spontaneously after about a week

2. use sunscreen

3. use a healing cream for a few days after treatment, to speed up healing.

The patient also shows higher satisfaction after DAS medical treatments compared to traditional techniques such as the CO2 laser or chemical peels which are more aggressive and involve greater downtime. In fact, Dr. Lebbar points out how "even patients who had previously undergone these more invasive techniques were already very satisfied with the result after a single plasma session".
