FNM Chairman's attack on civil servants disgraceful

The recent charges made by the chairman of the FNM about voter intimidation and double registration are baseless and without merit. Further, these disgraceful attacks on the integrity of professionally trained and hardworking civil servants are roundly condemned as civil servants are prevented by general orders from responding from such attacks.

ONLY A COWARD OF THE FIRST ORDER WOULD HIDE BEHIND THE POLITICAL OFFICE OF PARTY CHAIRMAN TO SULLY THE REPUTATION OF CIVIL SERVANTS FOR SELFISH POLITICAL GAIN.

FURTHER, IF COLLIE HAS ANY EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT HIS ALLEGATIONS, THE PLP PUBLICLY CALLS ON MR. COLLIE TO IMMEDIATELY FORWARD THEM TO THE RELEVANT AUTHORITIES IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST.

Collie should apologize to civil servants for his unseemly behavior.

I place these charges into the categories of fake news, political bluster and political grandstanding.

The facts are that the government has taken corrective actions to public complaints about voters being turned away due to certain dress code issues and documentation requirements. Additionally, the government has expanded the number of voter registration centers in many communities to facilitate the ease of registration. This is augmented by an aggressive public service announcement campaign to encourage eligible persons to register to vote.

So these baseless allegations by Sidney Collie about the voting process are at serious odds with the facts and are therefore figments of his wild and paranoid imagination.

The PLP has fought too hard and too long to secure equal voting rights for all Bahamians to engage in such nonsense.

The Progressive Liberal Party will continue its voter registration drives in the constituencies as we call on all Bahamians to exercise their unalienable rights and register to vote now as we work together to move The Bahamas forward.
