FlySchool: a strategic success story
FlySchool Air Academy is currently one of the leading aviation training centers in Spain, with bases in Madrid and Mallorca, annually graduating over 100 airline pilots. This achievement is made possible through their commitment to excellence, recognized by the Spanish Aviation Safety Agency (AESA).
For Entrol, FlySchool is more than just a client; they are a strategic client in the aviation training sector. The collaboration with FlySchool exemplifies how advanced simulation technology can significantly enhance pilot training, making it an ideal case study for our second edition of "Unlocking the Sky."
We decided to interview Rafael López, CEO of FlySchool, to showcase this successful business relationship and highlight the transformative impact of our A320 FNPT II MCC flight simulator on their training programs.
Interview with Rafael López, CEO of FlySchool
What were the main challenges or pain points faced by FlySchool before implementing Entrol's flight simulators?
A: Before acquiring the A320 simulator, the school conducted the final stages of training using turboprop simulators. While the training was of very high quality, many important aspects of airline operations and the aircraft used for most short, medium, and long-haul routes were missing.
Q: How did these challenges impact FlySchool's operations, training effectiveness, or overall business performance?
A: The inclusion of the A320-based simulator brought significant changes to the school. FlySchool took a step further in airline pilot training, requiring the hiring of new instructors familiar with the aircraft and developing new syllabuses to maximize the potential and technology of the new simulator model.
Q: Were there any specific regulatory or safety requirements that FlySchool needed to comply with, and how did this influence your need for high-quality simulation training?
A: Managing advanced simulators like the A320 from Entrol requires a solid management system and experienced personnel for development and maintenance, as well as an annual training cycle for all staff working with the simulator as per CS-FSTD(A) regulations.
Q: Can you describe how FlySchool decided to incorporate Entrol's A320 FNPT II MCC flight simulator into your training programs?
A: FlySchool decided to incorporate new flight simulators based on the Airbus A320 to elevate our training programs to an excellence level, where students could have hands-on experience with a commercial aircraft. This simulator became essential for airline-oriented training programs, ensuring that students are well-prepared for their type rating.
Q: What specific features or capabilities of Entrol's simulators attracted you?
A: Before purchasing the first simulator, our airline captain instructors conducted various tests and full flights, along with an audit of the provider that lasted about a week at their facilities. The final result was a machine that represented the aircraft with astounding realism, allowing students to understand the fly-by-wire philosophy and flight protections.

Q: How did Entrol customize or tailor the A320 FNPT II MCC to meet FlySchool's unique needs and requirements?
A: One of the complexities we faced was how to fit the simulator into our facilities, as the room was not large enough. However, the technical and engineering team offered to work closely with us, redesigning all the parameters and structures of the simulator to fit the available space. The development was a success, and we learned a lot working together.
Q: What type of training programs or scenarios were developed by Entrol in collaboration with FlySchool to optimize the pilot training?
A: The FlySchool instruction team, Entrol engineering, and the Spanish aviation authority collaborated closely to certify the simulators for conducting PBN approaches. This was an intense but relatively short process thanks to the post-sales support provided by the brand, allowing FlySchool to train a large number of airlines in Spain.
Q: What measurable improvements or benefits has FlySchool experienced since implementing Entrol's flight simulators?
A: Since incorporating the two ENTROL simulators, the school has positioned itself at a top level, becoming a reference in our country and experiencing sustained growth each year, doubling the number of students, staff, and bases. Currently, this technology is indispensable for training commercial pilots who wish to quickly and effectively join airlines.
Q: How have Entrol's simulators impacted FlySchool's training effectiveness, pilot performance, and overall safety standards?
A: The implementation of these simulators has clearly improved training quality and scope, allowing real flights with an aircraft that students will likely fly once they complete the course. Moreover, airlines benefit significantly by recruiting pilots from our school with extensive knowledge and performance on the aircraft even before starting their type rating course.
Q: Can you share any specific success stories or testimonials from FlySchool instructors or students regarding the effectiveness of the simulation training?
A: It is very gratifying when airlines praise our students during their training, often asking if they have flown a commercial aircraft before. This always brings a smile to their faces and highlights the value of FlySchool's instructional team and resources.
Q: In which ways has FlySchool's business relationship with Entrol enhanced your reputation within the aviation industry or contributed to your business growth?
A: There is a special chemistry between FlySchool and ENTROL, with both organizations prioritizing quality and customer service. Our staff consists of pilots, engineers, and technicians with a strong aviation vocation, creating a synergy that benefits both organizations.
Q: Looking ahead, how does FlySchool plan to further leverage Entrol's simulation technology to achieve their future training objectives or expand their offerings?
A: FlySchool relies on Entrol for the development of new simulators based on industry needs and maintains a long-term commitment to renewing these, always staying true to the brand. They have been a strategic client for our business for years, indispensable for our growth, and a source of pride as a Spanish brand.
The commercial relationship between FlySchool and Entrol demonstrates the significant impact of advanced flight simulation technology on pilot training. By leveraging these tools, training centers can enhance the quality of their programs, improve student outcomes, and effectively meet regulatory standards. This business relationship underscores the importance of strategic alliances in driving innovation and excellence in aviation training.
