Flying reminded me...

I love flying. It’s always been so much fun for me. Growing up it was a treat with my mom packing each of us an exciting array of activities. And best part was always giving our colored drawings to the flight attendants as a thank you.
As I grew up, I loved flying because “it reminded me of my own insignificance.” That’s what I’d say. Getting in a plane and hovering over the rest of the world used to make me feel small, in the best way. It would remind me of the greater humanity, with my mind unable to comprehend how many people were walking around down there. I felt like just one of so so many.
But now I see it in a new light. That perspective - rising above the clouds with a small number of people, looking down at the world - I think it shows how we’re all connected. And how significant each of us are.
We’re all sons and daughters to someone. Sisters and brothers to others. Friends to many. Each of us has the ability to impact someone in a positive way in our life, how cool is that? We’re not insignificant. Not at all. We’re so loved. We’re so special. We’re so capable of greatness.
Watching the sky turn all the colors of the rainbow last Saturday morning, I am so grateful. Grateful that we each can touch so many lives without even realizing it. Grateful that we can travel so quickly to see people and celebrate. So thankful to be experiencing life on this earth.
So today, how are you going to celebrate your significance? Because you are so cherished here.
