Flying to the "I"-lands … and to the Top of Another Ranking

As tourists and new residents arrive?in Nashville from around the world, Music City continues to expand its own global presence.

In the last month, Nashville International Airport - BNA has announced nonstop international flights to Reykjavík, Iceland and Dublin, Ireland, beginning in 2025. The Dublin route on Aer Lingus will begin on April 12, while Icelandair 's seven-hour route to Reykjavík opens on May 16.?This builds on the recent announcement of a nonstop flight?to Frankfurt, Germany via Discover Airlines.

“Strong musical traditions have connected Nashville and Ireland for many years, and we've been working with tour operators and media there to promote Music City for the past decade,” Deana Ivey , president and CEO of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp ., said in a statement.

“This new route not only enhances our international connectivity but also provides a new gateway to Europe, further meeting the needs of our business and leisure travelers,” Douglas Kreulen , president and CEO of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority , said in a release at the time of the Reykjavík announcement.

Leaders have focused for years on expanding the airport’s international reach, an effort recognized by the two flight agreements and by USA TODAY ’s salute to BNA in its 10 Best Reader’s Choice Awards. The airport earned the No. 2 ranking for Best Large Airport, claimed top honors as the best airport for shopping and its 400 Degrees was named the best spot for grab-and-go food. BNA added an international arrivals facility in 2023 with six expansive gates for handling large overseas arrivals, and the completion of the on-site Hilton hotel opened the door for a welcoming landing before those passengers experience the full taste of Music City.

Ivey added: “This new Aer Lingus route will continue to open access to other key European markets, which is another reason we aggressively pursued nonstop service to Dublin this past year.”

The Nashville Stars Baseball Club joins USA TODAY in recognizing the success of Nashville International Airport, and look forward to Icelandair and Aer Lingus being two of the many airlines bringing Major League Baseball (MLB) fans to watch their favorite teams take on the Stars in Music City.
