Flying High: The Palisades at Broadmoor Park's Adventurer's Club Goes Skydiving

Check another adventure off the bucket list for The Palisades' MBK Adventurer's Club! This month a group of residents (ranging in age from 76 and 91) soared over two miles above the ground with jumpers from Colorado Mountain Skydive.

The idea to take the leap came from resident Julie Templin, a retired nurse who has always wanted to skydive. For Nurses Week, The Palisades made it possible by gifting her and the community's Director of Health Services with a skydiving excursion. When other residents heard the plan, they joined in too.

?Julie, along with fellow residents Donald Downs, Jeff Dunn, and Director of Health Services, Sarah Riggs, jumped with an instructor from 12,000 feet up, traveling more than 120 miles per hour to the ground -- smiling from ear-to-ear the whole way down!

?When asked, "why would you want to do this?" Julie replied with a smile, "My friends asked me that too. It's the biggest adventure I could think of, and it's been on my bucket list for years. I'm excited to get to do it now."

?The MBK Adventurer's Club was born last spring when The Palisades' Director of Wellness Programming asked residents what outings and activities they wanted to try. She found that several residents had an adventurous spirit and the desire to try new experiences – especially those that stepped outside the norms for older adults. The group started with a rock-climbing outing and discussed white water rafting, race car driving, hot air ballooning, and more.

?Their zest for life and courage to try new adventures was an inspiration to others. In fact, MBK Adventurer's Clubs have formed in several MBK communities. Residents relish the idea of pursuing passions, trying out-of-the-box activities, realizing new possibilities, and leading an active and fun-filled lifestyle.

?Julie said it best as she floated to the ground on her jump.
