Infineon Technologies from Germany is collaborating with Taiwan's MediaTek and Design House Partners to develop a smart cockpit solution. This solution utilises Infineon's TRAVEO CYT4DN microcontroller unit (MCU) and MediaTek's entry-level Dimension Auto system-on-chip (SoC) to reduce hardware and software costs. The TRAVEO CYT4DN MCU meets the ASIL-B safety standard for automotive clusters, facilitates communication with the vehicle network, and monitors content rendered by the SoC. It is designed for automotive instrument clusters and head-up display systems, featuring a 40 nm process technology, a 2.5D graphics engine, sound processing, and dual Arm Cortex-M7 CPUs for main processing. The cockpit solution supports a resolution of 1920 x 720 pixels for displays. The SoC operates on an open-source Android OS, minimising software licencing costs. Infineon highlights the importance of cost-optimized digital solutions for enhancing driver comfort and aims to enable all vehicles to feature a digital cockpit.

Mukesh Chatter, CEO of Alsym Energy, stated that sodium-ion and solid-state batteries may not be reliable alternatives to lithium-ion batteries for reducing fire and explosion risks. He advocates for Alsym Green, a lithium-free battery using a water-based electrolyte, which he claims is inherently non-flammable and suitable for urban and equatorial regions. Following a deadly fire at a lithium battery plant, concerns about lithium-ion battery safety have intensified, particularly regarding toxicity and fire risks. Chatter noted that while some battery manufacturers are working on alternatives, current sodium-ion batteries still use flammable solvents and have low energy densities. Solid-state batteries face high costs and fire risks as well. Alsym Green aims to begin production by early 2026 and is focused on stationary storage applications, with future products targeted for marine and mobility uses.
