Flying Blind (Updated)

I first posted this in July... but felt the need to share it again and add too it. Why you ask? Think about what has happened with interest rates and the impact it is having on real estate

Not to mention we are now in October and are facing a last quarter and new year with change all around us. I believe this post is more important right now than it has ever been, and for those of us that choose to "fly blind" we should prepare for a very bumpy 2023. So today I want you to ask yourself the following questions.

Do you have the following items...

  • A business plan for the last quarter of 2022 and for 2023?
  • Goals for 2023 and beyond?
  • A well defined goal of where you want to get to in your career?
  • A system for tracking that you use to see how you are progressing?
  • Do you use the above if you have them?

If the answer to any of these is "no" then you are flying blind.

Imagine leaving Ohio to drive to Florida without any form of map or directions. Yes, you can head south east until you hit the ocean and then continue south, but simple directions would get you there quicker and more effectively. Not having a business plan is the business equivalent of no map.

I am always surprised by the number of business owners and salespeople who have...

  • No business plan
  • Goals with no plan
  • A plan with no goals
  • No way to track anything
  • No long range target (goal) to aim for

A great old quote that addresses this is "those who fail to plan plan to fail"... spoken by Ben Franklin. Yet so many business people fly by the seat of their pants.

Pilots, truck drivers, ship captains... everyone going from point a to point b use a map... they have a plan follow to get them to their goal. Surgeons don't just cut you open and say "well we will figure it out as we go. No, they have a plan for the surgery and a goal to achieve. But business people often have no plan or goals that they can track.

I know this matters... 2023 is coming quickly so get ready.

Don't fly blind.
