Fly in, Stay in.
Sharnee Commins
Senior Manager Human Capital (Adaptable Organisations) at Deloitte | Deloitte Inspiring Women 2023
It's pretty safe to say that in my many, many years in recruitment, I have written a fair few job ads in my time. I don't think I would be exaggerating to say that it would be in the thousands. Now, any recruiter will be with me here when I talk about attracting talent. Where to advertise? Who am I looking to recruit? Where will the candidate that I want find my add?
Ok. So, I have posted on countless job boards, I have advertised in print media in the newspaper (OH I AM OLD) as well as Community news papers. I have used Seek, Seek Business, Linkedin, Company sites and discussion forums. I have done pay per click on Facebook and squeezed an add into 140 characters for a twitter post. Bulk SMS was the go for a while and recently we have given Indeed a few buckets of money. Remember when career one and monster were the thing? I have even, in desperate measures, gone to the extent of Gumtree.
When I started at Aussie I was given instruction. "Think outside the box Sharnee, think strategically. Let's do things differently to the rest. You want to do it? We will support you." Well wasn't that like handing candy to a baby?
It started with a bus. I posted my job add, all over the back of 10 buses for a month. For one whole month, my job add drove the streets of Adelaide attracting candidates to the Aussie proposition. My gorgeous bus let the people of Adelaide know that we were looking for people, just like them, to partner with Aussie and start their own business in Mortgage Broking. My State Manager didn't bat and eyelid at the suggestion and my National Manager, she signed that approval with gusto.
What about WA though? Who are the candidates that we are attracting there? Where will we find them?
This is Perth. What do people in Perth do for work?
They FIFO. What is FIFO? (No Gen Y and Z, this is not FOMO) For those that don't know, the people of WA spend their time Flying in and flying back out again. How do we speak to those people? Well, we advertise where they spend the most time idle. So was born our latest advertising campaign. Today, I was able to see my job ads line the entire walkway of the Perth Airport. It was very, very cool. Here is my selfie. Yes, I have a grin from ear to ear, I was pretty darn excited.
I also have a whopping great backlit Billboard up there. Of course you want to see it!?
As the digital board (actually, ten digital boards) says, get started in Mortgage Broking. Speak to me today about how you can partner with Aussie to create your own successful business in Mortgage Broking, even if you have no experience in financial services. Come and see why a company that is inspirational enough to not even think twice about letting me advertise all over an airport could be the perfect place for you to start the path to a new, successful, business opportunity. www.aussie.com.au/business will get you in touch with me and provide you with an informative information pack.
Now, let's see how I go getting my next add done in sky writing!
