Fluorinated Fungal Metabolites As Potential Anti-Cancer Drugs
Authors at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, University of Illinois at Chicago, and Mycosynthetix Inc., have recently published an article on the fluorination of verticillins.
They were able to acquire several examples using precursor-directed biosynthesis and assess their cytotoxicity against breast, ovarian, and melanoma cancer cell lines. The authors claim such products would be difficult to generate using total synthesis.
NMR data was partially acquired using a JEOL ECA-500 NMR spectrometer operating at 500 MHz for 1H, 470 MHz for 19F, and 125 MHz for 13C.
