Fluoride in Water - A menace yet to fight!

I had a pre-planned trip to this school near Vijayawada, near Nandigama, specific to mention #Punnavalli. Great Change Maker @Vamsi, a metallurgical Engineer, left his posh job in Hyderabad and has been working towards upliftment of his village and has been successful in making his village a clean village by installing toilets in every house, water tanks, clean roads, etc. He has also set a library for children in the name of great scientist Naidamma, but could not fight one thing, the water coming from the Krishna Godavari water scheme being tasteless in his own words! I clarified to Vamsi that indeed water is tasteless, it is the mineral and salts in water which give taste, and hence bone strength and immunity to the consumer, if they have the right doses of right salt and minerals in the water, but not certain villains in water like fluoride, arsenic, iron, phosphate, nitrate above permissible limits, turbidity, odour, colour, apart from not having any pathogen (virus, bacteria) at all in water, making it potable. He said this school in Punnavalli had fluoride in water and we need to do a educative programme to all the children explaining them about potable water, and also do a live demo of the fluoride test there enabling to see if our #watsan natural water purifier can remove fluoride, with the adjoining kit we provide to remove fluoride! All this happened a a day before a great seminar in #NIRDPR, Hyderabad on 27th and 28th, Feb 2020. I took up the challenge, as a known son of the soil, @Jayasimma Makineni took me and introduced to Vamsi. It was the last day of the school, I believe as there were farewell parties etc among the outgoing students of class 10, but the teachers and students were more enthusiastic, in listening to the introduction by Jayasimma, later Vamsi, then me. I just told them any education is good, as long as we understand the subject and read, make a living out of what we have read, not get pushed by drumming up engineering, doctor etc. Also I explained them water is not just a liquid we see, but dissolved innumerable minerals and salts are there within, what are good and what are bad, why TDS has nothing to do with potability, but presence of even a single bacteria is bad, fluoride and arsenic a big menace in water. A live demo was shown to the children with the fluoride removal purifier we do, both morning, the test showing around 2 ppm, later in the evening the level of fluoride dropping down to almost zero! Not only the children, but the staff were also happy to see a non-electricity based purifier, removing fluoride in an effective and simpler way! The question is: how to reach out to them and the surrounding villages? Dealers or traders from Vijayawada seldom know the fluoride menace of Nandigama or Punnavalli, but we do. Is #Jalshakthimission thinking of reaching out to these unreached? The girl ****** (not naming her) who attentively listened to the story of mine, came forward to show me her teeth and said, in a slow flat voice" Sir, most of the children in our village have such tarnished yellow teeth". I didn't have an answer, I could only revert back, "Let me see how to reach out to you, logistics et al..." Pictures here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/qv6ni8Rv2wWV8KK16
