Flowee 2024 – Full Speed Ahead on a Business Adventure!

Here is the world of Flowee—a world where everything in business flows smoothly, where, in line with Heraclitus’ maxim “everything flows,” things develop, change, and move at a swift pace. Market principles, customer, employee, and business partner requirements, new regulations, and ever-newer technologies all create a fast-moving current. Flowee keeps up with the pace, ensuring a calm and steady course for businesses navigating the wide waters of the market.

What is Flowee?? Flowee is a low-code Business Process Automation (BPA) platform that enables organizations to automate processes in a transparent, fast, and scalable way.

Since Flowee doesn’t exist in a vacuum but flows alongside its users in the never-ending river of business development, it constantly evolves to lead them to calm waters. In 2024, we didn’t rest on our laurels, adhering to the principle that there is always room for improvement. To keep up with the swift current of change, making improvements is not just an option but a necessity.

Even though the business philosophy behind Flowee is a vast topic, we’ll step ashore and get straight to the point to answer an important question at the threshold of the new year: what’s new in Flowee in 2024??

‘Falls’ not so scary with Kafka – Data monitoring with a touch of Confucius

Oh, how many times have we read or heard the phrase, "The greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." This saying, often paraphrased here and there in literature and pop culture, has been attributed to Confucius for centuries. The ancient philosopher would surely be surprised by how popular this phrase has become. But it is true: a "fall" in the form of data inconsistency or system overload can cause sleepless nights for many organizations. We decided to meet Confucius’ wisdom with... Kafka (not the one from The Trial). By implementing Apache Kafka as an internal transport layer, Flowee achieves something Kafkaesque and quantum-like—Flowee can both fall and not fall at the same time!

Such a transport layer can be compared to a data highway network—if one of the roads is temporarily closed, the "traffic" (i.e., messages) still flows via alternative routes. This means that despite a "fall," the organization does not lose efficiency, and processes remain fluid. Kafka supports thousands of real-time messages, ensuring smooth data exchange between Flowee modules. When business needs grow, it allows for infrastructure expansion without disruptions or downtime. Thanks to queuing and replication mechanisms (the data highways mentioned earlier), the risk of message loss is minimized.

Performance, scalability, resilience, and smooth operation. Both Confucius and Heraclitus would be pleased! ??

Stoic Redundancy – A Pillar of Peace in Business

Is the entire internet encouraging you to adopt the timeless thoughts and attitudes of the Stoics? While it’s unlikely that Marcus Aurelius or Seneca ever dreamed of today’s technological possibilities, their philosophy remains relevant and useful in life, business, and even in designing business process automation platforms.

In 'Moral Letters to Lucilius', we find one of the most well-known and frequently quoted aphorisms by Seneca the Younger. According to the Stoic, “Fate strikes harder at those it catches by surprise; it touches less the one who is always prepared.” In other words—forewarned is forearmed. Those who want peace of mind do not expect everything to always go their way.

Staying true to this principle and aiming to provide peace of mind for Flowee users, we implemented solutions that achieve just that in the IT systems context. Full redundancy of components in the form of a cluster serves as protection against the whims of fortune and system errors. When one part of the system fails under pressure, another immediately takes over. The result? Users experience no downtime, and business continues to run like a perfectly synchronized orchestra.

With the cluster, Flowee gains: stability – a failure of one node does not paralyze the entire solution; performance – tasks are distributed across multiple instances, significantly reducing response times; and scalability – as the load increases, new nodes can be added to the existing infrastructure.

On the Trail – Prometheus and Grafana: Dr. Watson and Sherlock Holmes Monitoring Your System

"Control is the highest form of trust," managers often joke. We would add to this worn-out phrase a younger sister: monitoring is the highest form of control. While in human relationships that might sound Orwellian, in business process monitoring, it is every IT manager’s dream come true.

Driven by a desire to categorize and understand the causes of everything, Aristotle would certainly rejoice at seeing how Flowee’s Prometheus and Grafana ensure that nothing escapes notice.

Prometeusgathers metrics and indicators about system performance—data on performance, resource usage, and query count.

Grafanavisualizes the collected data on intuitive dashboards, enabling the IT department to analyze and diagnose issues.

This makes it possible to assess the platform’s condition at any time, determine whether it is functioning optimally, and quickly identify the causes of any problems before they escalate into a crisis.??

Stopping the Current to Move Business Forward – The Client-Centric Flowee System

ermissions 2.0 and Multilingual Support

Any rapidly growing business will eventually outgrow its language boundaries. Although Wittgenstein meant different, more abstract language limits in his philosophy, he would likely appreciate how modern technology allows us to play language, business, and process "games" with people who speak entirely different languages. With Flowee, every client can operate in their preferred language, no matter where they are.

Additionally, we have expanded access rights management.

This ensures that process management can be conducted in any language with full security. No unauthorized person can access restricted areas.

The Augean Library? Artifact Versioning to the Rescue!

Do you remember the 12 labors of Hercules? One of them was to clean the Augean stables. The clever hero diverted a river to wash everything away. This drastic method worked in myth but wouldn’t be very helpful for managing files and processes. Washing out all the content would leave us with nothing!

Instead of risking chaos, Flowee introduced artifact versioning. Every new implementation or change is saved—like a new, revised edition of a book. If needed, you can always access previous versions to track changes or revert to an earlier state.

Diversifying Engines – Various BPM Engines (Not Just Camunda 7)

One of the standout features of the "new Flowee" is the ability to use different BPM engines. Beyond the popular Camunda 7, organizations can choose the orchestration engine that best suits their needs. This provides not only "freedom of choice" but also flexibility—one of the pillars of efficient process management—and increased independence by avoiding reliance on a single solution. Greater independence means higher stability and better scalability.

Ad Hoc Tasks and Process-Building Improvements

We all want Flowee to enable quick and efficient action. To meet this need, we enriched the platform with ad hoc tasks, allowing for one-time actions in processes. We also introduced several editor improvements, including element copying (who doesn’t love Ctrl + V?) and grouping settings.

Client Portal – No More Email Overload

“This meeting could have been an email"? Or better yet, "This email could have been one click?" That’s where Flowee’s Client Portal comes in. External users can complete tasks, track progress, and share information with the organization—all in one friendly interface. No more chaotic email threads or messages lost in spam folders. The Client Portal simplifies work, much like upgrading from a stool to a next-gen office chair.

Flowee becomes like a symphony orchestra—each instrument (module, process, integration) plays in perfect harmony, while you enjoy the sweet melody of growing business efficiency.

No Fear or Trembling – A Word on Security

Where business meets technology, security must not be overlooked. In Flowee, the implementation of Apache Kafka, clusters, monitoring, and advanced permissions 2.0 has significantly strengthened the platform’s security package. Authorization mechanisms were improved with permissions 2.0. Downtime is minimized with redundancy and clusters. Prometheus and Grafana increase response speed to unauthorized access attempts or errors, and communication through the Client Portal greatly reduces the risk of data leakage.

A Platform for Every Business Philosophy

Thanks to the 2024 updates, Flowee is more flexible, efficient, and secure than ever. Above all, it enables organizations to operate efficiently and adapt to market realities in real-time. What does working with Flowee give you?

Peace of mind – thanks to modern security and effective monitoring.

Flexibility and speed – with tasks and information exchanged via the Client Portal.??

High performance – Kafka, clusters, and a cohesive architecture: everything running better than a Swiss watch (since a watch rarely "reschedules" a task in case of a failure).

Full control – through artifact versioning and permissions 2.0, among others.
