Trauma, Flow, and the Upper Limits of Performance
Flow states, often described as "being in the zone" are psychological states characterized by complete absorption in tasks, heightened focus and productivity, and a sense of enjoyment and fulfillment.
Join me and professional storyteller Gregory Frye in this video as we discuss “upper limit problems” and how these can affect self-esteem, flow, trauma, and the default mode network.
Eating THC Edibles with Fats Doubles Absorption
A four-way, crossover investigation sponsored and supported by MedReleaf revealed significant findings about THC absorption.
The research shows that consuming THC capsules with a high-fat meal from eggs, milk, and butter considerably more than doubled the systemic bioavailability of THC and its primary metabolite, 11-hydroxy-THC.
This study notes that women exhibited notably higher peak plasma concentration than men when ingesting 5.0 mg THC without food in a fasted state, indicating enhanced systemic bioavailability.
CBD Reduces Inflammation and Improves Heart Health in Mice
CBD treatment significantly reduced inflammation markers in mouse hearts leading to improved cardiac function, diminished inflammation, as well as heart injury and myocardial fibrosis.
The authors stated: “CBD treatment significantly attenuated mRNA expression of the proinflammatory IL-6, IL1β and IFN-γ”
Indoor Plants Versus Outdoor Plants: Do Terpene and CBD Levels Differ? ??
"The #outdoor plants not only produced more cannabinoids, but they produced a more significant percentage of sesquiterpenes."
"The #indoor plants experienced significantly greater oxidization and degradation of cannabinoids than their genetically identical counterparts grown in full sun."
Adaptogens' Role in Modulating FOXO Activity for Homeostasis and Better Health
Adaptogens are plants that increase tolerance to the effects of physical or mental stress and enhance endurance and performance. Forkhead Box O (FOXO)
With adaptogens in this pathway, we see increased life span in animal studies.
In this video, I discuss how transcription Factor DAF-16: FOXO factors are crucial in regulating cellular processes like cell cycle control, oxidative stress resistance, and apoptosis. For instance, reduced FOXO activity is associated with increased oxidative stress, aging, and cancer progression.

Cannabinoids in Bone Healing: CBD and CBG as Allies in Pain and Fracture Recovery
A Penn State study suggests that CBD and CBG hold promise for bone fractures for pain, and also for promoting the bone healing process.
In the study published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, scientists evaluated the pain-alleviating properties of CBD and CBG in mice.
These cannabinoids compared favorably to traditional pain management drugs like NSAIDs. Unlike pharmaceutical drugs, cannabinoids also showed a significant role in enhancing fracture healing.
The authors stated: "Overall, the protective, proliferative, and pro-osteogenic effects that we identified for CBD and CBG during the different healing phases culminated in accelerated repair, promoted bone formation, and enhanced biomechanical strength of the healed bone."
Neurologic Features of the Flow State Experience - How Flow Silences the Inner Critic
Neurologically, flow is accompanied by reduced over-thinking about oneself when the default mode network DMN is downregulated as it is during meditative states.
There is a reduction in self-consciousness, which in this case implies low levels of self-obsession and not worrying about what others are thinking about oneself.
Stage fright or speaking up or leading a meeting is an example of the opposite of flow. When we’re in flow, we don’t block ourselves, and we are not our own worst enemy.
