How Adaptogenic Herbs Relieve Stress and Enhance Performance
How’s your stress these days?
When I’m going through a tough time, I will frequently reach for some of my favorite friends – adaptogenic herbs to help get me through.
Here are some of my favorites:
Beyond Self-Talk: Discovering Peace and Confidence in Flow
If you’re anything like me, you’ve experienced some flow in your life.
And if you’re like me, you also probably want to experience more.
Because flow feels so good.
Flow is inherently enjoyable.
One of the reasons for this is that during flow, our brain shuts off negative self-talk that we often say to ourselves:
- “I’m bad at this.”
- “How do I look?”
- “Do people like me?”
This voice in our head is turned down during flow states. When the brain shuts off the negative self-talk, it gives us a few moments of relief from our defeatist inner critic.
?? Neurologically this shutdown of the critic during flow is called ‘transient hypofrontality’. In this way, flow states silence that nagging voice in our head that so often tells us we can’t.
?? During flow, the default mode network DMN of the brain is turned down. This feature of flow is similar to how our brain function changes during meditation and psychedelic states.
?? When our inner critic is silenced, we enter a world of greater peace and confidence.
Without self-talk to create negative emotions, our mental state frees itself from tension, and we discover a more confident and better version of ourselves.
The subject-object shift found in flow, meditation, and psychedelics can be the single most important feature we can make to accelerate personal growth.
By stepping outside ourselves, we gain perspective, empowerment, and meaning.
Whenever we get out of our heads, we get more perspective.
Over time, this makes a real difference.

Microplastics and Declining Sperm Counts in Men vs Dogs
Many sperm studies implicate chemical pollutants like pesticides.
And laboratory studies have shown microplastics can damage human cells. In a recent study, human testes had 3 times the plastic concentration of dogs, including PVC which alters hormones and decreases sperm production.
What other ways could plastics inside of our bodies be affecting our health?
