Cannabis's Role in the Management of Frontotemporal Dementia

A case series of patients with frontotemporal dementia showed reduced anxiety and improved mood with cannabis.

Gopalakrishna G, Srivathsal Y, Kaur G. Cannabinoids in the management of frontotemporal dementia: a case series. Neurodegener Dis Manag. 2021 Feb;11(1):61-64. doi: 10.2217/nmt-2020-0048. Epub 2020 Nov 16. PMID: 33190583.

People with behavioral variants of this type of dementia struggle with big changes in how they act and feel, making it hard for them to get along with others and handle everyday tasks.

They face profound challenges in managing drastic personality changes, impulsivity, and socially inappropriate behaviors.

The patients in this case series all had this particular behavioral variant despite typical pharmacologic management.

They were prescribed cannabis for comorbidities (anxiety, insomnia and pain).

The studies, authors stated: “In all cases, use of cannabinoid products showed significant improvements in behavior and the primary indication for prescription.”

Set and Setting, and the Placebo Response - A Very Deep Dive with Ruth Fisher, PhD

We explore the critical concepts of Set and Setting in medicine, emphasizing their importance not just in psychedelic therapy but across all therapeutic practices, including cannabis.

?? Joining me is Ruth Fisher, PhD, an expert in game theory, technology, and the profound impacts of cannabis and technology on society.

?? We go deep into the topic of set and setting and its impact on the psychedelic experience.

Ruth discusses prospect theory and choice architecture, and nudge theory, considering how these principles apply to the positive use of technology to steer decisions for better health outcomes.

Our conversation takes a closer look at the critical aspects of product consistency and continuity in the cannabis industry, the pivotal role of education in empowering patients, and the potential of cannabis to enhance the flow experience.

?? We discuss chess as a predictive model for understanding human behavior and decision-making, and shed light on omitted variable bias in the limitations of randomized controlled trials (RCTs), and how due to this bias they might not always capture the nuanced effects of treatments like cannabis.

?? Dr. Jake discusses the public health benefits of community and community grows that can develop around legal adult home-grows.

?? We even touch on the exhilarating world of night surfing, highlighting how auditory and olfactory experiences influence set and setting in therapeutic contexts.

Cannabis and its Historical Significance in Women’s Herbal Medicine

Botanical remedies for women’s health have been used for thousands of years.

Many of these remedies have long been neglected, ignored, suppressed, or otherwise forgotten.

?? It may be inevitable that important wisdom can be lost, however, if one is to revive it, then the only path forward is through research.

?? One historically useful, yet seemingly overlooked, remedy for women’s ailments is cannabis.

This article explores the use of cannabis and women’s health in the early cultures of Egypt, Sumer, Israel/Palestine, and the greater Middle East, as well as early European traditions.

Cannabis and Women's Health: A History - Part 1

This is part one in a three-part series I wrote on this topic for NDNR. Stay tuned for Part 2 in next week's The Flow State Apprentice.

?? Meanwhile, a healthy diet can help improve these parameters.

The authors conclude: “The relationship between nutrition and chronic pain is complex but traditionally underrepresented despite the emerging evidence which indicates that poor nutrition and dietary intake may play a key role in the development and management of chronic pain.”
