Flow Cytometry and FACS: The Differences

Flow Cytometry and FACS: The Differences

Flow cytometry has long been a staple tool in cell biology, allowing researchers to analyze the properties, physical and chemical, of cell and tissue samples by passing them through a laser. The way the light is scattered can be measured and provide crucial insights into the makeup of the sample.

FACS is a further innovation. An adapted form of flow cytometry, FACS provides the added benefit of being able to incorporate cell sorting based on the fluorescence of the various cells in the sample.

This week, Biobryt has taken a look at the benefits of each technique as well as why, where and when you should choose one over the other.
